Lachlan, great name!

RuthW · 04/12/2025 15:56

I like both.

muddyford · 04/12/2025 16:07

Lachlan. But why shorten such a good name?

YourWinter · 04/12/2025 16:09

Lochan is better than Lachlan. Sullivan is a surname.

butterdish93 · 04/12/2025 16:09

Oh I love both! Can’t go wrong with either

Zempy · 04/12/2025 16:25

Nope

and nope

Grammarninja · 04/12/2025 16:27

Lachlan for sure!

dailyconniptions · 04/12/2025 16:31

I really dislike them both. Lachlan sounds like someone bringing up phlegm.

Piggywaspushed · 04/12/2025 16:33

It would make my ears bleed to hear an English person (mis) pronounce Lachlan.

I have never ever ever heard it pronounced to rhyme with Loch and I went to school with many Lachlans and Lachies. I can only make it rhyme the German sprach , if that helps at all...

SlenderRations · 04/12/2025 16:33

Lachlan is very scottish and the shortening is Lachie. I have a Lachlan (and had a Great uncle Lachlan) and his name has never been shortened - it isn’t obligatory.

i have never understood why Australians spell the name that way, but pronounce it Lochlan and then shorten it to Lockie. Makes no sense.

Strokethefurrywall · 04/12/2025 16:34

I feel like I’m having a flashback @DNA3434 - if you search MN you’ll see I posted EXACTLY the same OP way back in 2014 when I was pregnant with baby #2!
My baby Sullivan is now 11 1/2 and loves his name (although griped about it when he was 4 because it had too many letters when he was learning to write and his fingers would get tired…)
I do still love Lachlan but husband much preferred Sullivan.

Forthelov · 04/12/2025 16:51

Lachlan

dimple285 · 04/12/2025 16:58

Sullivan makes me think of sullen so I prefer Lachlan.

Giddykiddy · 04/12/2025 17:29

I like Lachlan not keen on Sullivan

HaughtyAndCold · 04/12/2025 19:44

Lachlan

NeighbourProblems3 · 04/12/2025 19:48

I like Lachlan nn Lockie, makes me think of a rather hot guy from an Australian reality tv show 🤣

Peternell · 05/12/2025 00:23

While I don't mind Sullivan, I think Lachlan nn Lockie is a great name.

lickingfingertastingfood · 05/12/2025 00:34

Lachlan

Radiatorvalves · 05/12/2025 00:52

I know a Scottish Lachlan, who is called either the full name or Lachie, pronounced “Lacky”. It suits him.

SnowFrogJelly · 05/12/2025 00:54

Sullivan is a surname

Enko · 05/12/2025 00:54

Really like Lachlan. Not keen on nm Sully

KarriTreeSullivan · 07/12/2025 23:11

I really like them both!

Although I do think of the character from Monsters Inc.when I hear Sullivan so I prefer Lachlan.

There was a character in the most recent series of White Lotus called Lachlan (pronounced, how I as a born and bred English person would say, Lock-Luhn) he was a very rich American, his brother was called Saxon.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 08/12/2025 19:13

Lachlan - nice Scottish name

Sullivan sounds like a character in neighbours / substitute trashy reference of your choosing.
