I really like Haroon, Khusaima and Abuza for boys.
Zainab and Hadiya for a girl.

I like all of them apart from Nadia. I don't know what it us about it!

I especially like Musa, but that might just be because I've known a few that were (and I hope still are!) all just really lovely boys 😂. When you work with children it really influences opinions on names!

Yeah, miss is really nice.

Omar or Adam for a boy
Khadija or Maryam for a girl. Special mention for Jamila - I had a friend at school called Jamila, I adored her.

'Rami' for a Boy ( it means 'The Marksman' , 'One who is Focused, Determined' (Plus i love Rami Malek) and 'Yasmeen' for a girl, love that name !!

Musa is pronounced differently to mowza (arabic for banana)

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 29/11/2025 14:29

Both spellings of Haroun are lovely.
Every Haroun I’ve ever taught has always had a really lovely way about them.
And I loved the book Haroun and the Sea of Stories, so I am biased.

@BeNoisyFish , the genus of banana isn't mowza.

I think of Alanna (or Alannah, Alana) as Scottish - common feminine version of the classic Alan! But I love it. Also love Nadia, really like Samara. If you're living in an English-speaking country, these ones - and also Sofia, Fatima, and Yasmin - are pretty trouble-free in terms of pronunciation.

I like Khalid, Musa, Yusuf for boys - and Farook, although spelling could be confusing in English (Faruq, Farouk, etc.)

BeNoisyFish · 29/11/2025 15:37

Any name can be taken the piss off, you have to draw the word association line somewhere.

Iman or Amir. My great grandfather was called Abdulla. So many beautiful names, it’s hard to choose!

One of my favourite girl's names is Nelufar. It's so pretty.

I work with a Noura and she’s a lovely person, but a lovely selection of names to choose from.
