What’s people’s thoughts on the name Lainey? And also what would you hyphenate it with? For example Lainey-Rae or Lainey-rose etc

Lainey like the country singer? The name is very pretty but I wouldn’t hyphenate - a bit basic.

CheeseWisely · 20/11/2025 09:30

I’ve know a few Laineys but always short for Lorraine or Elaine, never a stand alone name. I wouldn’t hyphenate it.

Pyjamatimenow · 20/11/2025 09:32

Lainey is very pretty. Sounds twee with the hyphen though

user1492757084 · 20/11/2025 09:33

I prefer it without hyphen.

Lainey Johanna
Lainey Estella
Layne Jasmine
Layne Dorothy
Lena Elizabeth
Lena Catriona
Elaine Rose
Elaine Victoria

I have a lovely friend known as Lainey and I’ve seen it used as a stand alone name in the US. Personally I wouldn’t hyphenate it though. It’s pretty and different on its own and when hyphenated it becomes lumped in with all the other hyphenated names.

HairOil · 20/11/2025 09:37

Honestly, while I’ve encountered a few, it always sounds like a small child’s nickname for Elaine or similar, rather than a standalone name.

Definitely don’t hyphenate it with anything. There used to be a dreadful US influencer type (the kind who routinely had a friend send her boxes of leaves so she could stage adorable autumn photos of her children romping in Florida) who had a daughter called Lainey-Love.

Same here.

I adore the name Lainey. I only ever met one and she was so lovely. I wouldn't hyphenate it with any other name, it's beautiful as it is.

Chichichochi · 20/11/2025 10:28

I’ve always had a soft spot for Lainey! I really wouldn’t hyphenate it though.

Needmorelego · 20/11/2025 10:30

Lainey is ok as a name.
I agree with others that it doesn't need an extra hyphenated name tagged on.

purpleygrey · 20/11/2025 10:31

I think with country music becoming bigger in the UK and Lainey Wilson being as huge as she is it’ll start to become a lot more common.

love the name btw.

PumpkinTwistyWindToots · 20/11/2025 10:32

It's very American which is ok if you like that vibe but I wouldn't hyphenate it with anything!

Pranksters · 20/11/2025 11:59

The only Lainey I know of is short for Elaine.

Hyphenating it with Rose or Rae (or May/Grace) is the dullest most overused thing you could do. Every girl has it.

RaraRachael · 20/11/2025 12:04

Where I live Laney is short for a small lane. I once taught a child called Laney and commented to the mum that it was unusual. "Oh aye. We called her that cos she was conceived in the laney"

If you like it go for it.

Itsallstressstressstress · 20/11/2025 12:28

Don’t mind the name but I would definitely not hyphenate.

KarriTreeSullivan · 20/11/2025 15:12

I really rather like Lainey, but I absolutely would not hyphenate it, it's too cool/pretty/interesting a name in itself, a hyphenated additional name would distract from that. It doesn't need anything more. And I don't particularly mind hyphenated names (they are mostly hated on here!)

AmyDuPlantier · 20/11/2025 15:16

I don’t like it, but I think Laine is much more chic sounding.

I like it but I agree that Laine is nice and you could use Lainey as a NN.

For the love of all that's holy, no hyphen.

hairyunicorn · 20/11/2025 15:17

I know a Delainey, which is quite nice.

OriginalSkang · 20/11/2025 15:18

I don't like it. Its a nickname, not a name

I find hyphenated names quite chavvy

JillyGiraffe · 20/11/2025 18:31

I much prefer Elena, Helena, Eleanor and think Lena is super cute! I’ve not heard of Lainey in the UK.

Joolsin · 20/11/2025 18:54

I know a few Laineys, all of whom are really called Elaine. I think Lainey is such a pretty variation of a plain name! Please don't hyphenate it.

I totally agree with this and definitely no hyphenation ever, that has ruined many a good name.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 20/11/2025 19:59

I like lainey but definitely not with a hyphen
