Most of them are fairly popular these days, I would say. Many are pleasant names. Wren and Juniper may date as they’re currently quite trendy. Mia and Amelia and Ivy and Grace and Margot and Erin are all a bit overused too, in my opinion.

I love Astrid and Mabel, but they have very different vibes!

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 01/11/2025 21:32

I love Astrid as it’s fairly uncommon

Pyjamatimenow · 01/11/2025 21:33

Amelia- no reminds me of ‘mealy mouthed’
Astrid- bit harsh sounding, sounds like detergent
Celia- old lady ish
Ciara- ok
Clara- ok
Clover- marg
Cora- ok
Erin- ok
Grace- very boring
Ivy- old lady ish
Juniper- silly
Mabel- awful
Margot- ok
Mia- ok
Niamh- ok
Oona- awful
Orla- ok
Ottilie- too much like Tilly which is a bit wet
Wren- a bird

NewDogOwner · 01/11/2025 21:48

All classy. Juniper is a little 'out there'.

KoalaKoKo · 01/11/2025 21:52

Are you Irish as there are a lot of Irish names on the list? Personally Erin always makes me cringe - the only people I knew with that name were Irish Americans - to me it’s the equivalent of calling a kid England or Scotland (though two of my partners relatives have place names - just a personal hate of mine). I like Amelia, Mia and Niamh (if Irish links otherwise strange).

JMSA · 01/11/2025 21:55

Ottilie is a bit twee. Clover and Juniper are awful (they sound like something you’d name a horse). The rest are all fine … with the exception of Mabel.

JMSA · 01/11/2025 21:57

I also prefer the spelling ‘Una’ over Oona. But actually, it’s too old-fashioned for a wee girl.

Mumofgirls2017 · 01/11/2025 22:01

Amelia- personal bad association, also dislike medical meaning. But it’s a fine name and very very popular
Astrid- don’t like the ass sound at the start.
Celia- not a fan of the sound of meaning
Ciara- bit dated and harsh sounding
Clara- love this. Classic, nice meaning, elegant
Clover- one of my favourite names though marmite I’m sure. Associations with margarine. But it’s so beautiful and lovely sound.
Cora- like. Becoming popular.
Erin- ok, becoming dated
Grace- what if they aren’t graceful. Most I’ve met aren’t!
Ivy- like, but so many around
Juniper- another of my favourite names with great nn options.
Mabel- like this. Know it’s getting popular but don’t know any
Margot- grown on me but can’t quite love it. Spelling looks like maggot and feels a bit… elderly?
Mia- bland, popular, blend with Mila, Maya, Leah, Thea etc
Niamh- slightly dated and just not crazy about
Oona- not a fan
Orla- I would love this unfortunately bad personal associations
Ottilie- soooo trendy I worry it will date rapidly and know quite a few now
Wren- also trendy but I lovvvve it. Although I do worry if they don’t end up built like a wren.

I love them all except Amelia. Wren is my favourite x

2024BabyNameIndecision · 01/11/2025 22:14

I have an Erin so obviously thats my favourite from your list 😊 I also have an Imogen, which you might like as well.

Other names on our list which were the same as yours were Niamh and Orla.

I'd stay away from Ottilie, Ivy, Amelia, Margot on account of their popularity at the minute. The rest are all very lovely.

Jammeroo · 01/11/2025 22:26

Lovely list. They are all nice.

Only pointing out below in case you are looking for things that your daughter might come against growing up - nothing awful - just thinking like a tween/teen kid....

Clover - the name of the rabbit in Sophia the First.
Celia - will have endless people sing the Simon and Garfunkel song at her.
Astrid - name of the main female character in How to Train Your Dragon but she is pretty kick ass.

Oona - will forever be spelled incorrectly as Una.
Niamh - Another one that will forever be spelled Neve on 50% of birthday cards. My kids have unusual spellings so not a big deal but if it will annoy you it's something to think about.
Ivy - is a lovely name but lends itself to being called poison ivy in any difficult friend stages.
Margot - nasty name calling could turn that to maggot.

Naming kids is so hard!

Viviennemary · 01/11/2025 22:29

I like Celia Cora Grace Ivy. Don't like Juniper Orla Niamh, Oona, Wren

Rainbowcat77 · 01/11/2025 23:16

Amelia: nice if a bit dull/overused now
Astrid: a bit too “out there” for my taste…not sure why.
Celia: awful
Ciara: just don’t like this
Clara: nice-ish but dull
Clover: love it
Cora: like but don’t love it.
Erin: another like but don’t love it.
Grace: one of my favourite names but currently very popular, does that bother you?
Ivy: dislike
Juniper: love this.
Mabel: not my taste.
Margot: ok but a bit “ old lady” for me.
Mia: nice but dull
Niamh: not a fan
Oona: dislike this irrationally
Orla: not a fan
Ottilie: this was my top name when I was expecting my dc but friends told me it was ugly…I love it.
Wren: love it but if your child turns out to be on the larger side it could backfire.

my top choices from this list would be Ottilie Grace or Juniper Wren

Thanks everyone who has replied. I’m loving reading through everybody’s thoughts on the names, knew there would be some opinions were divided on! Also it’s made me think more about where some names have come from, and how popular they are, I wasn’t aware of the medical condition some of you mentioned for example.

Interesting thanks, of the names you mentioned maybe being overused I wonder if popularity is localised to areas because some of them I’ve not come across used locally to us

CarmelaBrunella · 01/11/2025 17:44

Some lovely choices here, some slightly underused, like Cora and Erin, which are beautiful.
I don't particularly like Juniper.
Wren is the only one I don't like, it's been very over used and it's the name of a kitchen fitter, which puts me off.

Good point re kitchens lol

OP posts:
Emanwenym · 02/11/2025 15:25

@CarmelaBrunella , Baby name explorer suggests otherwise. Agree about kitchens. It's a cute name for a kitchen but sounds harsh as a girl's name

@Namethoughtsplease , name popularity does tend to be localised. If you've heard a name it becomes more normalised.
People tend to look for a baby name, not a woman's name. The pool of names will be names like 'Amelia, Freya, Isla etc' not 'Sarah, Rebecca, Vanessa etc'.

Bumbles55 · 02/11/2025 18:05

I really only love Astrid and Clara. Amelie is nice rather than Amelia (which translates to absence of limbs…). Cecily is a more modern day version of Celia (which in itself isn’t a proper name - it’s Cecilia)

Margot/Juniper/Mabel/Ottilie are all very faddy, already ageing in a bad way. Ivy is awful - I’m an auntie to one and will never understand why they chose that name! Such an unpleasant sound, plus the relation to a jagged plant?

estellacandance · 02/11/2025 18:10

Amelia will be others in her class
Astrid lovely
Celia makes me think of Alf’s sister in old home & away!
Ciara how to pronounce??
Clara lovely
Clover I like it but there’s a rude joke about spreads like butter
Cora Downton Abbey
Erin dull and dated
Grace not another one
Ivy I like it
Juniper fun but would it get shortened to June which feels boring old lady / Terry and…
Mabel twee
Margot Anne Frank’s sister
Mia mamma
Niamh bit 90s?
Oona ugly
Orla pretentious
Ottilie ridiculously pretentious
Wren only if black/mixed race

IwishIhadcheese · 02/11/2025 18:13

I love Clara, Clover, Juniper and Mabel.
