Please vote for one name. All are family names somewhere in our tree. Middle name Catherine which is also a family name.

Anna is a lovely classic, Nancy is a nice diminutive too (Nina also an E European diminutive of Anna)

Nina is alright but it's a bit.. nothingy

Nora reminds me of snoring, really don't like it

AsperityVerity · 01/11/2025 09:20

Thanks. So far there are 30 votes and they are all 33%!!!

Nina or Nora but I would I wait until they are born and then decide which one they suit.

meadster · 01/11/2025 09:39

Nina and Anna are two of my favourite names. Does either flow better with your surname or give better initials?

AsperityVerity · 01/11/2025 09:47

Thanks. Deadlock of votes is broken with Nina. Nina 40% and Anna and Nora tied at 3% each.

Our surname is a commons standard boys name and they all go OK with it. No unfortunate initials or sounds.

Nina but my DD3 is a Nina so I’m biased! Although saying that, almost every person we meet comments on how lovely her name is, I really love it!

user2848502016 · 01/11/2025 10:17

A tie so far! I voted Nora but would probably go for full name Eleanor and use Nora for short.

I also really like Anna, but not keen on Nina

JDM625 · 01/11/2025 10:21

Nora reminds me of norovirus- but I work in healthcare!
Anne is ok but I prefer Nina because its a bit different.

Moreteaandchocolate · 01/11/2025 12:59

I like all three! I was torn between Nina and Anna - Nina has the advantage of being less commonly used yet very familiar, but I went for Anna in the end as it’s such a timeless classic.

Yamamm · 01/11/2025 13:03

Anna is beautiful and elegant. Nina is pretty and lightweight. Nora is a bit ugly plus it’s very 2024/25 so will date horribly.

ladygindiva · 01/11/2025 14:22

Anna's boring, Nina's nice but a bit fashionable so will date, Nora is classic and beautiful. In my opinion.

I think Nora is a standalone name? ... a great great aunt of mine born circa 1900 has it as her name on documents etc

MrsArcher23 · 01/11/2025 15:39

I voted for Nora as it was my beloved mother’s name (she hated it!) If I had had a daughter , I would have called her Eleanor as a nod to Nora. Nowadays I would call my (mythical) daughter Nora. It’s due a revival.

Katieweasel · 01/11/2025 16:25

Love love love Nina

mathanxiety · 01/11/2025 16:35

Nina is 'lightweight' as a pp remarked. Nice for a three year old doing baby ballet, but imo it doesn't carry you all through life.

I voted for Nora as it's a classic that takes a baby through all the stages of life.
Anna is similar.
I don't think you could go wrong with either Nora or Anna.

AsperityVerity · 01/11/2025 16:46

It’s funny that ppl see Nina as lightweight and cutesy. My grandmother was Nina and she a Russian Jew who survived the holocaust by walking across Europe so I definitely see it as a strong name. It also makes me think of the songs of Nina Simone which are also really strong songs.

Nora was my Irish grandmother on the other side who also survived a lot of hardship and so I see that as strong too.

Anna/Annie was the name of so many of my female relatives on both the Irish and Russian sides and there are so many fascinating stories associated with different Anna’s in our family.

So to me they are all classic and strong names but it’s good to know that’s not how they are perceived universally.

I would go with Nina. Though Anna is lovely and perhaps a better match for Catherine.

DickDewey · 01/11/2025 16:49

Anna is lovely, Nina is ok and Nora is hideous.

Astrabees · 01/11/2025 16:50

Have you thought about Annora? It ties in two of the names you like and is very pretty. Annora Spence was an artist. I’ve come across one in real life too.

JMSA · 01/11/2025 16:51

Anna’s the best. It works well wherever she may travel in the world.
Nora just reminds me of Nora Batty. It’s an old woman’s name.

LivingTheDreamish · 01/11/2025 17:28

I love Anna as a name, but like the idea of Nina or Nora to remember your grandmothers. I would probably go with Leonora nn Nora.

Soozikinzii · 01/11/2025 17:41

My DGD is called Nina and we get many comments saying what a lovely name when we're out . Its good for any age . Its international.

timoteigirl · 02/11/2025 07:51

I'm glad Anna won, it is the one I voted for. Used in other countries more than in UK, for example in France. Jesus' grandmother so a classic name. Unless you want to combine Anna and Nina to Annina. Just suggesting.

LancashireButterPie · 02/11/2025 09:32

I'm British and don't see Nina as "lightweight" at all. It's a good solid name.
Anna is lovely.

What about Nova as an alternative to Nora? Or Naomi.

Bellvu · 02/11/2025 09:41

I love all three, you’ve got great taste, I’d go with Nina 😊
