Recently found out I’m pregnant with baby #2 and revisiting some girl’s names we loved from the first time around. Would love to hear some unbiased opinions! (Making another thread for boys since we don’t know the sex yet 😉)

  1. Louisa - classy and unusual
  2. Frida - vintage chic - like the two syllables so no need for shortening
  3. Helena. - lovely but the two pronunciations would bother me. Nell is a nice nn though.
  4. Antonia - super classy but it’s long and I don’t like the nn options (Toni)

Louisa - lovely
Frida - I really like this, we have a Frida in reception class and I was immediately struck
Helena - Hell-uh-nuh puts me off
Antonia - no from me, I don't like it at all

TheeNotoriousPIG · 29/10/2025 20:27

I like Helena (pronounced 'Hel-ay-na', rather than, 'Hell-uh-nuh') and Antonia best out of your options. If you're not a fan of Toni, what about Annie or Nia? Nia is a Welsh name, meaning "bright" or "radiant".

Louisa is fine, but I prefer Éloïse!

DramaAlpaca · 29/10/2025 20:31

I have a definite favourite and that's Louisa.

Helena is nice, but there's three different pronunciations which would potentially be annoying.

Antonia is OK in full, but I can't think of a diminutive I like.

Frida I just don't like at all, I find it quite ugly.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 29/10/2025 20:35

Antonia - it's due a revival and it's very elegant, Toni works much better on a woman somehow.

The others are all nice too. I'd spell it Frieda though, as it's not terribly common and you will otherwise likely get some people saying Frid-ah, which is also too close to frigid for comfort, when you consider what teens are like.

Firsttimebabymummy · 29/10/2025 20:38

Antonia is important favourite and on my own list!
Ask like Louisa.

SkaneTos · 29/10/2025 23:05

Great names, all of them!

I voted for Antonia, a beautiful name, it also reminds me of the great novel "My Ántonia" by Willa Cather.

Frida is a popular name in my home country Sweden, it's a beautiful name too.

mathanxiety · 30/10/2025 00:28

I really love Frida and Antonia.

Helena and Louisa are lovely too, but the first two stand out more.

BatsInHibernation · 10/11/2025 19:10

I like Antonia, I know one and no-one uses a nn
Louisa and Helena I love.
Frida - it's adorable and unusual (here).
You can't go wrong with any of your choices. My vote is for Louisa because it makes me think of Steel Magnolias and Little Women

JDM625 · 10/11/2025 19:15

Congrats! I like Louisa and Helena.

Frida, sounds frumpy. Reminds me of the word frigid and I think of a monobrow.
Antonia- Don't like. For some reason, it always sounds masculine to me.

LivingTheDreamish · 10/11/2025 20:56

Nice list OP.

Frida is a bit different (in good way!). I don’t connect it automatically with monobrows.

Louisa is probably my favourite on your list, I also like Louise.

Helena is very dignified, an underused classic, need to think of a sweet nn for when she’s little (Leni?).

Antonia is nice but not keen personally on Toni. How about Antonella nn Nell?

dizzydizzydizzy · 10/11/2025 22:26

Frida says ABBA to me. I love ABBA! :-)

Alexandrine · 11/11/2025 06:29

You have gorgeous taste- I really like all your choices. However unfortunately Helena has possible pronunciation issues, Louisa doesn’t have very nice nicknames imo (personally I dislike Lou/Lulu) and Frida is sometimes also spelt as Freida.

So for me I’d plump for Antonia, as I can’t see any negatives to it. Like your other choices Antonia is timeless and elegant with a strong history - but is easy to pronounce and spell (as it only has one common UK spelling/pronunciation), is well used internationally, and has a huge variety of different diminutive choices if she wants in Annie/Anna/Anya/Toni/Tonya/Nina/Nia.

dontletmedownbruce · 11/11/2025 16:58

I like Frida but with an ‘e’ , otherwise it looks too much like Friday.

Ted Hughes wrote a wonderful poem, ‘Full Moon and Little Freda’. Check it out!

4 fabulous names. You can't go wrong whichever you choose.
