I adore this name and trying to sell it to my husband who thinks we would be giving our child a surname which would get shortened to Frank which is a dogs name.

Your husband is right.

It gets a lot of hate on MN but I love it! DH’s best friends son is a Franklin and he’s 3 it suits him so much and he’s Frankie for short sometimes

Moreteaandchocolate · 13/10/2025 18:35

I like it! I think you have to like Frank for short though (I do).

KittyRannaldini · 13/10/2025 18:36

I really like Franklin- I know one in his fifties and one under ten.

LivingTheDreamish · 13/10/2025 19:30

I like it too but you would definitely need to be happy using Frank (or Frankie when little) as Franklin is quite a serious name.

JillyGiraffe · 14/10/2025 06:26

I like Frank/Frankie as nicknames. I wouldn’t name my own child Franklin, but everyone’s different! Just makes me think of Franklin D Rossevelt.

I quite like it too, Frankie is cute.

I know a Franklin professionally, in his 30s. Never shortened to Frank or Frankie, always Franklin.

HugoYorway · 14/10/2025 09:19

I don't think Frank is a dog's name, and I don't particularly like it, but I dislike Franklin.

TheSandgroper · 14/10/2025 12:13

The Franklin I knew is now in his early sixties and is always Frank. Franklin is only for paperwork.

SoReadyFor · 14/10/2025 12:13

Love love love it 😻

Bitzee · 14/10/2025 12:16

I don’t personally like it but it’s not awful or anything. It was the president’s first name so I don’t think it’s that surname-y and I don’t get the dog’s name thing as in I’m met several human Franks but no dogs. You would have to be ok with Frank/Frankie as nicknames though.

cornflakesandtea · 14/10/2025 12:23

I have a Franklin who is only ever Franklin, we’ve never shortened it and he doesn’t introduce himself as anything other. He is in his teens.
It’s not a popular name on here though, OP, so don’t expect great replies. I always hate seeing threads about the name because it usually gets some horrible replies, but I can’t not answer because I think it’s a great name.

Firebird83 · 14/10/2025 16:55

It feels a bit American. I prefer Francis.
