Umlelleia - poeple do care once the baby is born - but hopefully are too polite to give their opinions (unless of course they have nice things to say)!

I find it very odd to announce the baby's name before it is born.

Umlellala · 04/06/2008 14:56

I know, wish I hadn't really. It is somehow different though when the name is 'attached' to a baby/child. You get used to names you don't like very quickly anyway.

Reefer is a bit weird, but at least no one else will be called it!

I thought maybe it was meant to be another pronunciation of Raif/Ralf but on second thoughts, maybe not!

Does she know that it's a slang term for drugs??

My mum was being especially annoying just before DD was born so i told her we were going to call her T'Sahundra..little baby T'shaundra.
When she said " gosh - how unusual. Were does that come from" I told her (truthfully) it was the name of a baby who's mother was DNA testing five guys to find her dad on Maury.
She didn't phone me for two straight weeks

lollipopmother · 04/06/2008 17:01

Pagwatch that is BRILLIANT!

We had already chosen the names for my baby but my mother kept on say 'but what about ....' until I got really ratty and shouted at her choice of Rebecca. She hasn't mentioned another name since, but I wish I had done something like you!

pagwatch · 04/06/2008 17:02

She's still cross and DD is 5 now..

pagwatch · 04/06/2008 17:03

(And it is T'Shaundra course, T'Suhundra would just be silly)

dizzydixies · 04/06/2008 17:04

pmsl @ pagwatch

am more impressed with the fact she's gone a week overdue and is still at work!!

lollipopmother · 04/06/2008 17:06

Is that the lady who is having T'Shaundra? If so, I'm not surprised, I expect the baby will put off coming out indefinately if it knows what name awaits it!

Pagwatch - was she Vulcan?

YP - either she is yanking your chain, and is just trying to keeping schtum on the real names, or she is serious - in which case get it out of your system here, and when baby is born say "How lovely, really suits him/her!"

whoopsididitagain · 04/06/2008 17:17

Cadelaide - we had a dog when I was a child that was called Beaver. I never understood why my parents hated the name until I was older! We inherited her from my grandad. He'd got her from a dog shelter, and her actual name was Biba, but he misheard and so she was stuck with Beaver (we found this out much later).

expatinscotland · 04/06/2008 17:54

Oh.my.god

MargaretMountford · 04/06/2008 17:54

Gene is a good name, but really put off it on seeing the photo of the charming offspring of Liam Gallagher.

pagwatch · 04/06/2008 18:02

rolf at beaver.
Going to persuade my children to call our next dog that. DH always walks the dog. He will look like a desperate perv wanmdering the woods...

OverMyDeadBody · 04/06/2008 18:14

You have to tell her what a reefer is. For the child's sake.

edam · 04/06/2008 18:21

if she isn't just having you on, you HAVE to tell her, the poor woman.
