Not sure yet but what's your opinions on the name 'Lorena' I think it's uncommon but still elegant and timeless. What's your suggestions and what middle name would be good?

Not actually heard it before and would've assumed it was pronounced Lorayna but as PP said that's easily corrected.
I know a couple of Lorettas so that's much more familiar but think Lorena is nicer.

Lorena Frances
Lorena Jade
Lorena Jasmine
Lorena Phoebe
Lorena Chloe
Lorena Catherine
Lorena Maisie
Lorena Juno

Love the names thank you

Lori would be such a cute nickname though

I know a Lauren called Lori.

I don't dislike Lorena but much prefer Lauren? And the nn still works.

I also love Laura, which I think is really pretty and hasn't been used much for ages.

ETA and Lori is a cute nn. The Lauren I know spells it Laurie.

Jinkslinger · 06/10/2025 23:22

Only Lorena I have heard of is Lorena Bobbie who chopped of her husband’s penis. Not an association I’d want really

mathanxiety · 07/10/2025 02:21

maras2 · 06/10/2025 19:05

Will always think of Mrs, Bobbitt the cheating husband's penis remover.
She pronounced it Lor ay na.

Yes, me too.

And YY, pronounced Lor-AY-na.

It would normally be pronounced LorAYna in the US, where it's popular in Hispanic areas.

Lori would be a very dated nickname. The only Lori's I know are in.their 60s.

I still don't fully know how to say - Lorena.

Is it like Lauren with an a at the end. LOR-en-uh?
Or is it like Sophia Loren. Lo-REN-uh?
Or is it like Lorna. LOR-n-uh?

It is a nice name.

Lorena Sophie
Lorena Jane
Lorena Iris
Lorena Mariette
Lorena Grace

how the fuck do you pronounce en as in house???

lol I thought the same !

CrystalShoe · 07/10/2025 03:18

Lorena and Loretta both make me think of an older American woman with bright lipstick and brassy hair but a heart of gold. Honestly, I don't really like either of them, although I've heard worse.

That’s where boats are kept, in a marina!

Yes and it’s also a name…

Ooogle · 07/10/2025 07:51

I don’t mind it and think Lori is a lovely nickname

I know some young Loris/Lauries - from Lauren, which I don't think is dated.

It's more one of those names that is never in, so never out.

SharkPants · 07/10/2025 08:18

I think it's a really pretty name. I've definitely heard of it, but it's not common.

HugoYorway · 07/10/2025 09:59

@Calliopespa , Lauren is very early 1990s. It was a top 10 name then (#2 in 1994), but only 38 Laurens registered in 2024.

Not true. It's dated.

I must have missed that brief bubble of them.

I know one who would be mid fifties, one late thirties, a teen and a nine year old, so to me it seems quite a spread. It always seems quite an isolated usage to me, unlike the Susans, Louises and Olivias et al.

Interestingly @Slothey felt similarly: I really like Lauren. Never quite popular enough to feel dated now, I think

HugoYorway · 07/10/2025 15:15

It's definitely dated. Look at the ONS figures if you don't believe me.

I not "not believing", just having a discussion.

It was the name that Kevin and Sally Webster chose for their PFB, but everybody kept saying 'Laura?'. Sally got fed up with correcting them,
so they called the baby Rosie instead.

I think it depends on where you live, your age, and the type of people you know.
I don't know anyone called Isla or Ivy, and never hear the names when out and about, but the names are hugely popular.

Love them names but my niece is Isla

Red lorry, yellow lorry

Manthide · 07/10/2025 20:54

I used to look after a lovely lady called Laurina and I think its a beautiful name.

That’s where boats are kept, in a marina!

Or a pure and gifted heroine in one of Shakespeare's lesser known plays!

CelestialCandyfloss · 07/10/2025 22:24

Everyone over 40 (maybe 50) will just think Bobbit 🤣😬 🔪 🍆
