ok so we're preganant with B/G twins.

we're quite keen on the idea of 'proper names' so there's something formal but both DH and I are known by nicknames, and we want to have nicknames for out children too.

For our girl twin we like Libby (Elizabeth) or Tilly (Matilda) although personally im not certain i like Matilda - so if anyone knows anything else that can be shortened to Tilly.

We have no ideas for a boy though!! It needs to fit well with the girl's, but we don't like the same initial thing eg. Lewis and Lily as a) it's confusing and b) takes away a bit more individuality iyswwm

so yeah - any ideas for both boys and girls, that have (uncommon)nicknames and fit well together but don't use the same letter lol - not much

thanks

belgo · 03/06/2008 08:07

Mathilde is the french version and can be shortened to Tilly.

pigleychez · 03/06/2008 12:02

In my baby name book Thomas means "Twin"

branflake81 · 03/06/2008 12:54

Definitely Ottilie for Tilly.

For the boy, Edward is the best suggestion so far but

Xavier
Buster (I know one)
Gregory

cherrylips · 05/06/2008 19:01

I know of someone who named their dd Ottilia (as in Oh - till - ia). Its a Scandinavian name i think, the mom is Swedish. They call her Tilly for short.

Comerscroft · 06/06/2008 12:06

A friend named her boy Paul, and the girl Pauline.

They were nicknamed the '2ps' at school.

lotspot · 15/06/2008 00:02

Ottilia is quite nice i think Ottilie sounds a bit too much like ollie for me and there was a mean ollie in my class at primary school lol

DH has grown found of samuel the last few days, but we have a samantha for a neice who is known as sammy or sam so it puts me off slightly

Found Freya in a name book - i like, DH says it reminds him of horses

Gregory is my BIL so thats a no.

Patrick is quite nice...needs a bit of mulling i think

any more ideas? we're struggling lol

Libby is lovely

Libby and Joel/Tom

1dilemma · 15/06/2008 00:17

I know an Ottilia was going to suggest it but got beaten. Known as Tilly thought she said it was Italian

Flibbertyjibbet · 15/06/2008 00:25

Patch? For a child?

If you take him to the park and shout 'Patch' a million dogs will run over. Including FILS's revolting part pit bull.

We called our twins Daniel and Gareth. The name Thomas definitly means Twin. Greatest thing ever is being the mum of twins

nooka · 15/06/2008 02:01

I like Alexander (Sandy, Zander), Christopher (Kit), Theodore (Theo, Teddy), Jonathon (Jonty, Jon). My db wanted Maximillian (Max) and I also like Zacharius/Zachary (Zach), Sabastian is good too. Lots of good names to choose from
I think to be honest unless you choose something really wacky any name will go well with Elisabeth (nice classic name with many possible shortening). I can't think of any family I know where I thought the names of the children didn't go together. I do agree on avoiding "matching" names.

Egg · 15/06/2008 06:54

My twins are called Jacob (yes another Jacob here) and Rebecca. Jacob does not have many nicknames (mainly Jake, and sometimes Jakey, which DH hates), Rebecca has a lot of nicknames, mainly Bec Bec as that's what DS1 (2) calls her.

Congrats on your twins .

Mummyandi · 15/06/2008 11:55

I love Mathilde, for Tilly. We have that as a poss for next child. Suggestions that others have put that I love are Theodore (Theo). Love Charles (Charlie) Jonathan (Jon, Jonny)

Congrats on twins. V jealous

ChicaLovesBranstonPickle · 15/06/2008 12:19

Peter
Thomas
Patrick
William
Charles
Matthew

MerryMarigold · 15/06/2008 22:11

Congrats on the twins. I am having b/g twins too (not till october).

How about Maggie short for Marigold (!) (or Margaret, Margareta)? I love Maggie! I like Maggie and the ferocious beast. You could have Maggie and Hamilton!

I know a Libby, makes me think of cheapy orange juice. She's very sweet though. Her brother is Ben (Benjamin I assume). Not keen on Tilly, a bit middle class.

Boys names are harder. We have an Oli short for Oliver. There's Daniel (Dan/ Danny), Thomas (Tom), Gerald (Gerry). I know a Joel who used to be Joel-y when he was little (not written, just verbal) but at 8 is now too old for that.

If you like a name, pass it on to me and I will abbreviate/ bastardise it for you, it's my talent!

henrys7thwife · 16/06/2008 15:07

Do you like Izzy (Isabelle)? Thought maybe Isabelle and Sebastian?

CountessDracula · 16/06/2008 15:07

hahaha henry

henrys7thwife · 16/06/2008 15:09

just realized what I suggested.
