... remember that it isn't as weird as this announcement in The Times today. 😳

"WOODHAMS on 4th September 2025 to Annabel (née Simpson) and William, a son, Basil Groove Blofeld, brother to Stanley Beats Scaramanga".

(Pic attached for proof, once it gets through moderation.)

But middle names are never really used, are they?

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 18/09/2025 13:12

Until their wedding day!

RaininSummer · 18/09/2025 13:13

What interesting names though.

Lemonadepie · 18/09/2025 13:13

That’s true - but I actually think they’re quite cool/funny!

Better than James or John…

Tomatocutwithazigzagedge · 18/09/2025 13:14

Huge Bond fans I guess. Fantastic.

RuttleTuttle · 18/09/2025 13:15

Oh that is absolutely joyous 😄

Iguessicoulddothat · 18/09/2025 13:15

Bond villians?? Weird inspiration for your precious newborn!

Isn't it interesting how parents who love 'wacky' names so much never actually seem interested in changing/appending their own names to them - only wanting to inflict them on to other people?

They'd be fun names for a pet or for a character in a children's book; but giving them to an actual person - even 'just' as middle names - is narcissistic in the extreme.

All of that embarrassment and probably teasing/bullying that you've set your child up for, every time they have to give their middle name. Nobody is saying that you have to stick to John or Jane as middle names, but this is just a 'hilarious' joke that should have remained as a 'wouldn't it be funny if...' giggle and then back to the real world.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 18/09/2025 13:22

I can't fathom why anyone would subject a child to such weird names.

Not least because it'll mean a life time of spelling it for everyone, but I'll never be able to take someone seriously whose called "Rainbow Naveah Dreams" or some other weird concoction.

Don't get me started on a recent name I saw of "Sharlotte" ....the misspelling makes my teeth itch 🤣

Just remember, a baby it might be cute for but come the time their CV is being read for a job, it won't be so cute any more.

The Times birth announcements can often be relied on. It's not just middle names either. The other week little Halcyon claimed top spot. Maybe he'll be known as Hal (as soon as he realises).

Until their wedding day!

I am old enough to remember "Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads" when Bob married Thelma, and the vicar said, "Do you, Robert Andrew Scarborough Ferris...", and Terry let out a loud, incredulous "Scarborough? Scarborough??".

And Rodney in OFAH, when everybody found out at his wedding that his middle name was Charlton!
