I pretty much love Leonora, and will be using full name, but for day-to-day I like Leo or Len as nickname. Maybe even Lori as nickname, since I like idea of unexpected, but still plausible nickname. It's for a girl and I pronounce it Leo-nora.
what do you think of the name Leonora?

I like it, DS has a friend called that and everyone callls her Leo

Pukekopalace · 01/09/2025 10:51

Love it.

LivingTheDreamish · 01/09/2025 11:47

I love it. For me it would be nn Nora though.

Emanwenym · 01/09/2025 11:52

It's not awful but it's very long. Leo for a girl gets a flat No from me. Len isn't as bad. I'm not keen on Nora either.
I have a soft spot for Leopoldina and I actually know one.

Jessbow · 01/09/2025 12:09

Sounds frumpy to me-bit ageing aunt
Leonie? bit softer sounding

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 01/09/2025 12:11

I know a ‘Lally’ with this name

Moreteaandchocolate · 01/09/2025 12:12

I like it, and I love Lori for short.

So we’ve had Ajax and now Lenore. What’s next, Cif (or Jif?)

Leonora is a perfectly normal name.

Leonora is a perfectly normal name.

Except my immediate thought was to think of Lenor.

Emanwenym · 01/09/2025 12:20

@Jennyathemall , it's Leonora not Lenore, and the fabric conditioner is Lenor.

I had the same thought. Probably a result
of seeing it written down where it looks similar and the recent Ajax thread on MN doesnt help tbf.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 01/09/2025 12:25

I like it. I'd probably use the nicknames Leo (said in my head as Lay-o, because I've only ever come across the name Leonora on a documentary, and that was her nickname!) or Nora.

GoldenRosebee · 01/09/2025 12:26

Jennyathemall · 01/09/2025 12:19

Except my immediate thought was to think of Lenor.

But Lenore is legitimate name and older to fabric softener Lenor... for example in the poem Raven, departed love of poet is Lenore.

Very pretty! Though I always thought the pronunciation was lay nora and I prefer the nn Nora but I do think Leo would be nice too especially if you are pronouncing it leo nora.

Firsttimebabymummy · 01/09/2025 19:00

Love it! Like the nn options too!

Overtheatlantic · 01/09/2025 19:03

Leonora is a beautiful name, and I think the name of one of the Spanish princesses.

RuthW · 01/09/2025 20:12

Lovely

mamagogo1 · 01/09/2025 20:15

Think its Portuguese, Spanish too

Alexandrine · 01/09/2025 22:12

I like Leonora, although I like simple, elegant Lenore even more - I love the Poe poem and don’t care about fabric softener.

Personally I wouldn’t use Leonora only as I’m less keen on the nn’s - Leo is the nicest but still a bit masculine to me, Len is more so and harsh too, Lori is dated and I think the sound of Nora is horrible. But if you are happy with the nn’s then I say go for it.

ClaredeBear · 01/09/2025 22:31

Lovely and so many options to shorten it.

user1492757084 · 02/09/2025 01:55

Leonora is lovely and I also love
Leonor, Eleonor and Leonore.

NightPuffins · 02/09/2025 02:19

It’s a beautiful name, I love it!
I would use Leo or Lee for short.

Sparklesandspandexgallore · 02/09/2025 07:46

It reminds me of Lenor fabric conditioner sorry I don’t like it.
