I’d go with a Welsh name to go with Rhys, Bronwen or Megan?

My DS was originally going to be called Rhys or Gemma if he'd been a girl. Always liked that combo.

(Annoyingly a rude relative put me off using Rhys in the end but that's a whole other thread.)

For some reason my mind went straight to Zadie. Might suit you if you like Zara also?

Seren would be the obvious one for me, as like Rhys it’s obviously Welsh but familiar to English speakers too (plus it’s short and sweet like Esme, Zara, Orla.)

Eira would be the other obvious one for similar reasons, although as it’s a bit more newly popular you might still get the odd “Eye-ra” instead of “Ay-ra”.

Nia is less well used but it’s another short and sweet name that’s familiar both sides of the border. Or Gwen if you’d consider a 1 syllable one.

Bizarrely, I think every single Rhys I've known (quite a few as I'm a teacher) has been an only child!

I love Zara.

I don't think it needs a Welsh name to go with it, unless you are Welsh and specifically want one. Rhys is much more widely used than the majority of specifically Welsh names and probably a lo of people don't even know it is a Welsh name. I see Rhys as going well with:

Anya, Autumn, Aria, April, Amaya, Bronte, Bella, Connie, Chloe, Clara, Daisy, Darcey, Erin, Elodie, Ella, Eva, Freya, Gracie, Holly, Hallie, India/Indie, Imogen, Jasmine, Kitty, Lola, Layla, Lyla, Leah, Matilda, Molly, Millie, Mia, Nova, Olivia, Phoebe, Piper, Poppy, Ruby, Rosie, Sadie, Summer, Scarlett, Sophie, Thea, Willow, Zoe

If you did want a Welsh name then I'd go for another one well known in ENgland like:
Alys, Bethan, Carys, Nia, Seren, Tegan

I think that, naturally, it needs to be another Welsh name.
