Emily or Hazel?

Torn between these two names. We already have a Charlie and a Rosie, I think Emily fits better with these names and I do love the name, I'm just concerned how popular it is. I love the name Hazel, reminds me of autumn which is my fav season and i dont know any other Hazels, but husband isn't as keen.

They’re both beautiful and I think they both go equally well with the other names. Do they both work well with the surname? Why not wait until she’s arrived and then see what she looks like, if you know what I mean!

BoleynMemories13 · 14/08/2025 07:58

I love Hazel but you need to both agree, so Emily it is. Emily goes really well with Charlie and Rosie.

dontcomeatme · 14/08/2025 07:59

Emily all the way, beautiful x

Emanwenym · 14/08/2025 10:10

Emily Hazel sounds good to me.

Nicolathecat · 14/08/2025 10:13

Hazel - beautiful name and more unusual

Maddy70 · 14/08/2025 10:18

I love Emily. It's timeless

TheSummerGrinch · 14/08/2025 10:22

My mum is called Hazel so it's always been a special name for me. I love it.

cheercaptain · 14/08/2025 10:24

Emily. It is a beautiful name and goes perfectly with your other children’s names.

Largestlegocollectionever · 14/08/2025 10:25

Hazel

BarnOwlFlying · 14/08/2025 10:33

Both beautiful.
I prefer Hazel as I love nature names.

OxfordQuestion · 14/08/2025 10:33

Hazel 💯

EDiz · 14/08/2025 10:34

As an Emily, Emily is a cracking name!

Avocadohoho · 14/08/2025 10:37

I know you’re concerned about popularity but you have a Charlie! Unless you did what I did and accidentally give your DC names that weren’t popular and now they are. 🤦🏻‍♀️

To me Hazel is frumpy, I don’t like it. Emily is nice but a bit dull.

Mydadsbirthday · 14/08/2025 10:39

I love Emily. Timeless. Hazel is a bit dated to me although I keep seeing it popping up on threads here. I dislike the sound of it personally.

Emanwenym · 14/08/2025 10:44

Charlie and Rosie are both very popular.
Babies called Charlie in England & Wales since 1996
Babies called Rosie in England & Wales since 1996
Babies called Emily in England & Wales since 1996
Emily was super-popular in the 1990s and 2000s, and only dropped out of the top 5 in 2019.

Moreteaandchocolate · 14/08/2025 11:02

Hazel is my favourite - such a lovely nature name that you don’t hear often. I know so many Emily’s in their 30s, it feels a bit dated to me. Still a lovely name though.

MagicMagpie · 14/08/2025 11:07

Emily Hazel would be lovely. If your daughter turns out to share your love of Hazel, she can, at some point, ask to be called by her middle name. Very common practice and keeps both options “open”.

Flyingsorceress · 14/08/2025 11:08

I think Hazel would work brilliantly as a middle name.

Emily Hazel sounds lovely

MiddleAgedDread · 14/08/2025 11:14

Emily, I agree with the PP that Hazel is frumpy (possibly not helped by the only one I know!!)

FancyFeline · 14/08/2025 12:16

I love Hazel, was on our shortlist if we were having a girl!

OopsieeDaisy · 14/08/2025 14:12

I also think Hazel is quite a frumpy name and I can’t see the appeal of it although it gets mentioned on here a lot!

Emily is lovely and goes perfectly with your other children’s names.

momtoboys · 14/08/2025 14:16

Hazel. Emily is a beautiful name but overused IMO.

Alexandrine · 14/08/2025 16:10

Emily for me - much more classic. Hazel is newly fashionable again, which means it may also date again. I also agree Emily works better with her siblings names. However if your heart is telling you Hazel then listen to it - it’s not as if it’s an awful name.

timoteigirl · 14/08/2025 16:50

What does your husband suggest instead? I personally dislike Emily and would like to understand what it is about Hazel that he dislikes.

pilates · 14/08/2025 16:57

Emily
Hazel sounds frumpy to me.
