If you like French culture, I don't think there's such a thing as 'too French' - go for it. I actually think it makes more sense to have two siblings with names of a similar cultural origin, than, say calling one of them Amelie and the other one Sven or something!

Such nice names.. I don't think it should be an issue. They are both reasonably popular names and well used in the UK. I wouldn't assume you were French necessarily...just that that your style

Moreteaandchocolate · 03/08/2025 10:47

I think they sound good together - not too French to me.

LucasBuck · 03/08/2025 12:03

It’s fine - you aren’t calling them Etienne and Lilou or something where people are going to be wondering about a French link. Louis and Amelie are popular both sides of the channel so no one will blink an eye, in fact I know a Louis and Amelie sibset personally (it’s probably a commonplace pairing tbh). Plenty of sibsets have names of a similar style - perhaps your style is just French chic, rather than Retro, Classical, Nicknames etc.

Lovely names!

I think the names are lovely. I don’t think it matters if you go for two French names or one French and one not French. Just pick what you like. 😊

Gorgeous nanes

timoteigirl · 04/08/2025 12:57

why not if you like them. don't overthink

Prince William's DC have French names too (including Louis, of course!) Your chosen names have been popular in the UK for a generation now, so I don't think you'll be fending off questions about your French ancestry. (Have you traced your family tree, by the way? There must be a lot of Brits of French descent, maybe you're among them!)

Lancrelady80 · 04/08/2025 13:08

Lovely names, used by both English and French so definitely use if you want.

However, I'm going against most people here....I do think that both are definitely French-sounding in origin (or at least sound it - not going to delve into actual name origins) and the average person will assume there is a French link somewhere in the family.

But it's not a big deal to correct if anyone asks - you just say that you liked the names! It's definitely not something that should put you off using them. "Too French" isn't a problem.

Nobody cares, OP. Call your children what you want! Lovely names.
