I like Phoebe, i always thought Poppy sounded like a dogs name.

NuffSaidSam · 29/07/2025 13:29

They are all nice but I like Phoebe best, then Clara and Poppy the least.

Poppy is too cutsey for my tastes and I do know a LOT of dogs called Poppy!

JamesWebbSpaceTelescope · 29/07/2025 13:29

Phoebe.

Both a nice names as is Clara but I think Phoebe works better as a grown up woman looking to be taken seriously.

miniaturepixieonacid · 29/07/2025 13:40

I much prefer Phoebe, though Poppy is nice too.

BoleynMemories13 · 29/07/2025 13:42

Phoebe, followed by Clara (although personally I prefer Lara).

Poppy is cute, but that's the problem. She won't be a baby forever.

missabby · 29/07/2025 13:44

I love Poppy. We thought about it first time around but had sons so never got to use it. Phoebe is nice too I just prefer the sound of Poppy. I don’t think it’s especially cutesy either really, but maybe because all the Poppy’s (Poppies?) I’ve met have been adults over 25+ and have all grown into their names well. A mix of doctors, teachers, an librarian and one managing director. I’m not a fan of Clara as it reminds me of the character in Thomas the Tank Engine. Nothing wrong with that of course just personal preference.

TheaBrandt1 · 29/07/2025 13:44

Poppy is awful totally inappropriate after the age of 5. Can’t bear cutesy names for girls.

Melsy88 · 29/07/2025 13:59

In order of preference for me: Clara, Phoebe, Poppy

HerdMentality · 29/07/2025 14:06

Phoebe, Clara then Poppy.

Violetsspa · 29/07/2025 15:08

I find Phoebe such an ugly name …fee/bee has no redeeming qualities

LucasBuck · 29/07/2025 15:15

Clara is lovely, quite classic and elegant. Phoebe is not my personal taste (don’t like the double “ee” sound) but nothing wrong with it at all.

I know there will be more and more adult Poppy’s about now as it’s become so popular, but I’m personally not keen - it sounds too childish/like a nn to me (some people, especially with US links call their Dads or Grandads Pop/Pops/Poppy).

autienotnaughty · 29/07/2025 15:25

Poppy is very popular. I like Clara best (huge Heidi fan)

giveflowersbackaibu · 29/07/2025 15:26

Clara

Agree 100%. Clara is fabulous. Phoebe isn't to my taste but perfectly nice.
Poppy Is so bloody twee. Cute for a pet dog or a toddler.

RuthW · 29/07/2025 15:37

Phoebe
clara
Poppy

Stickytreacle · 29/07/2025 16:05

Clara, not keen on Phoebe and agree with others about Poppy being too cutesy and babyish.

JillyGiraffe · 29/07/2025 16:08

I much prefer Poppy and really like flower names/classic names for girls. It’s perfectly suitable for children and adults alike. I’m not keen on Phoebe but if you like it, go for it!

DemonsandMosquitoes · 29/07/2025 16:24

Phoebe.
Poppy is rather wet.
Love Cara though (not Clara but similar).

BootballJoy · 29/07/2025 16:42

Really like Phoebe. Poppy is twee to me.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 29/07/2025 16:49

Phoebe has been one of my favourite names for decades. Love Clara too.

I've personally known two dogs and a cat called Poppy so wouldn't use it for a child for that reason.

Moreteaandchocolate · 29/07/2025 17:02

I like all three - my order would be

  1. Clara
  2. Pheobe
  3. Poppy
girlmum6 · 29/07/2025 19:45

Thanks all. Possibly a bit of a stretch but do you think Poppy could perhaps be used as a nickname if we went for Phoebe as her official name? I thought it could perhaps be a compromise…thanks.

I don’t think you can use Poppy as a nickname - they aren’t related at all. Sorry.

Well technically nicknames can be anything you want them to be and don't have to be linked to the name at all, but personally I'd find this contrived. After all, there is no P sound in Phoebe.

girlmum6 · 29/07/2025 19:50

Thanks @JamesWebbSpaceTelescopeand @BoleynMemories13. I think you are right.
