Reva or Zana?

Littledog68 · 25/07/2025 19:56

My other kids are Lena, Ezra and Noa. We can't decide on something for our 3rd baby girl due in a couple of months.

Any other suggestions welcome too, but we think we've narrowed it to Reva (ree-va, like diva) or Zana (zah-na, like banana). I'm not particularly blown away by either but we can think of anything better.

Thanks!

Rowan?
Zara?
Hazel?

Spell them Reeva or Zayna or they will forever get them pronounced incorrectly. The spelling is so important! I prefer Reeva x

It's not Zayna, it's Zah-na, like it rhymes with banana, but I agree Reeva seems better with 2 ee's

Exactly, I would've mispronounced it. A name should be spelled how it os pronounced. Saves the child a lot of hassle in the future.

Reva is lovely

ooooohlala · 25/07/2025 21:50

Where in the world are you? Because Banana can be said in a few different ways which might cause confusion.

But I agree with PP’s general point - with names that don’t have a fixed spelling, go for the one that makes pronunciation easiest!

Ivytheterrible2025 · 25/07/2025 21:57

I like Zana.

Also like;
Kyrie
Raya
Mara
Orla
Anya

Dd went to school with an Alana...she was Alana Banana her whole school life.. Don't do it op.

Arlanymor · 25/07/2025 22:01

I'd spell them Reeva and Xana to avoid mispronunciations.

Or Tzana.

I think Zana (or Xana or Tzana) sounds better within the sibset.

LucasBuck · 25/07/2025 22:16

Reeva is fairly well known (it has been increasing in popularity after the tragedy), so I don’t think she’ll have any spelling or pronunciation issues if you use that. Zana isn’t as well known as similar sounding Zara so you will get a lot of people pronouncing it with a short “a” until corrected. Spelling it Xana won’t change that but Zahna might (though I don’t like the look of it as much).

Vita?
Veda?
Gaia?
Theia?
Anya?
Mara?
Zia?
Zelda?

Not Xana. Far to close to Xanax.

Riva is good. I did think of Rivka, though, and find that I quite like it.

Isitreallysohard · 26/07/2025 02:08

Love both. I would spell it Reeva to avoid confusion (unless Reva is the way it's originally meant to be spelt)

I would spell it Zahna. I would think Zayna rhymes with Rain-a.

Isitreallysohard · 26/07/2025 02:12

And also if you don't mind the Oscar Prestorious thing, because that's the first thing I think of even though I do love the name

user1492757084 · 26/07/2025 02:57

Reva is my choice. Spelt Reeva or Reva.
If you choose Zana, I would spell it ..
Zahna.

Alternatively, there is Zara. I like that best of all.

Lena, Ezra, Noa and Zara.

Others:
Java - rhymes with lava.
Maud
Faye

Feejoah · 26/07/2025 03:32

Zana is my fave, pron. Zay-na or Zah-na.

I would want a vowel sound you don't already have, so not Reeva, because you already have the long e in Lena.

Reya?

I did think that too about the vowel sound matching Lena.

We had Raya (pr rye-uh like the disney movie) on the list at one point but hadn't thought of Reya. Thanks

We're in the UK. I've seen it spelt Reeva, Reva and Riva tbh so I didn't think it mattered as most people have to introduce themselves anyway. But I do understand your point 😊

So here banana is b-nar-nuh, so Zar-nuh is the prn.

Zana is lovely. I know a Zana, and I don’t think she has many problems with people knowing how to say her name.

I'm in the Uk and we don't have xanax here. Not to say my kiddo will never travel but it's not an immediate association for most of the population here.
