Im torn between head and heart, This is deffo my last baby and if its a girl I would just love to call her Willow-trouble is that our surname begins with a W.

Would that be such a big deal? or is it a deffo no no?

I have a child with same initial - first and last name
not a no no

fluffyanimal · 27/05/2008 15:38

So long as the surname isn't Wisp. or Warbler.

modernart · 27/05/2008 15:39

It can sound really cool, there are loads of actors, etc with the same initial. Probably not if your surname's Williams though, Willow Williams sounds a bit much.

MrsWeasley · 27/05/2008 15:40

one of mine has the same initial it is fine, although I will confess that the first time I heard it over the Doctors tannoy I giggled all the way to the GP's room

Pinkjenny · 27/05/2008 15:41

I lurve the same initial thing, although I didn't do it with dd, my friend's daughter has the same initials and it sounds so pretty.

minniedot · 27/05/2008 15:58

My ds is Oscar and our surname begins with O. I did feel a bit funny about it at first but people always say that he sounds like a rock star, which is rather cute.

GreenElizabeth · 27/05/2008 16:41

Hmmm. No. Sorry.

Willow Wilson, Willow Warrington, Willow Warner, Willow Winston they all sound bad.

Willow Wright might be ok though.

The alliteration thing makes your name sound made up I think. Like for example Jenny Jones. Sounds like something that just rolled quickly off your tongue while you were deciding whether or not to give your real name.

TheProvincialLady · 27/05/2008 16:43

Hmm. It might sound good with your individual name but in general I agree with GreenElizabeth. Perhaps you should ask your RL friends and colleagues who know your surname.

mybrainaches · 27/05/2008 16:45

Phew.......reading the first line of your opening post I thought you meant you were torn between calling her Heart or Head

Cappuccino · 27/05/2008 16:45

it is fine

Cappuccino · 27/05/2008 16:46

and I think most of GreenElizabeth's options sound fine too

iMum · 27/05/2008 16:48

you see it would ber Willow Wa

So is that different than to a Wi surname?

OP posts:
iMum · 27/05/2008 16:48

should be be Willow Wa

ie our surnae is a two sylable jobby starting with Wa not Wi like the first name would be

OP posts:
Cappuccino · 27/05/2008 16:49

why is it a big deal?

I know people with the same first and second initial

and I didn't even realise until a few minutes ago when I started really thinking about it

iMum · 27/05/2008 16:51

Well you see I dont think it is a big deal Cap, just want to check with the mumsnet mass to make sure-dont really want my possible dd being ridiculed for life if I can at all help it!

PuppyMonkey · 27/05/2008 16:51

Sounds a bit tongue twister-ish so far

LobstersLass · 27/05/2008 17:07

I think it'll be just fine. I don't see it as a problem. Willow is a lovely name.

Tortington · 27/05/2008 17:09

as long as her middle name is Wendy

then she can be
WWW

Heffa · 27/05/2008 18:07

I don't think it would be too much of a problem. Our surname begins with a 'Wa' and we considered Willow. Decided against it, but only because DH's ex-step-sister was called Willow. I certainly can't imagine anyone getting teased for having an alliterative name tbh.

oooggs · 27/05/2008 18:09

there is a Willow at nursery and her surname is Watson-White
