Nancy66 · 27/05/2008 11:18

Willow, Raven and Trinity are pole dancer names

TheProvincialLady · 27/05/2008 11:23

I dislike all of them, sorry.

Willow = Unfortunate hippy parents
Tristan = Herriot
Raven = Trying far too hard
Trinity = Just sounds awful to my ears

What is wrong with Susan, Anne or Jane?

ShowOfHands · 27/05/2008 11:26

I love Willow and Raven but then I smell of patchouli.

Eden is Not Very Nice imvho.

learningallthetime · 27/05/2008 11:28

I don't even know what patchouli is?!

OP posts:
ninedragons · 27/05/2008 11:31

Smelly hippie oil, learning.

Tristan is lovely but the others sound like avatars from World Of Warcraft or something.

learningallthetime · 27/05/2008 11:40

LOL ninedragons

LaDiDaDi · 27/05/2008 15:25

I like Willow and Raven.
Really don't like Tristan.
Trinity is ok but it means three people considered as a unit. Nice if you only have one dc but if you have more isn't that meaning a bit odd?

Amandella · 27/05/2008 16:04

Actually I love Eden - I have a friend with a girl called Eden and I think it's really pretty...

paros · 27/05/2008 16:11

Tristan sounds like he will be an MP .LOL

ChuffyKrumhorn · 28/05/2008 07:18

Willow is beautiful.
If I have a daughter, I am considering it as a second name (after Saskia / Maya / Freya, depending...).

There are smells worse than patchouli...
ie: Gucci perfume or Popstar-endorsed fragrances, to name a few...

IMHO,
being barefoot, with granola in her bowl, flowers in her hair (-and an earthy, interesting, imaginative mum--) make Willow a happy little girl!
Frankly, to hear "Willow" would be a breath of fresh air in a pre-school filled with girls who sound as if they were named after Period themed Porcelain Dolls or characters from a Jane Austin Novel...

cornsilk · 28/05/2008 07:30

I know a Tristan, now an adult, it really doesn't suit him.
Not sure about the others either, they sound a bit 'witchy' as in Buffy.
Out of the 3 Willow is my favourite.
Love Eden.

kayzisexpecting · 28/05/2008 07:31

I like Willow and Tristan.

I really don't like Raven and Trinity just makes me think of the Matrix films which I hate. Its an ok name but it reminds me of 3 awful films.

iMum · 28/05/2008 07:43

Willow is my number one if I have a girl this time-tho Dh is not sure!

Moomin · 28/05/2008 07:58

I know Willow - it suits her, she's a lovely gentle child.

Tristan - I quite like - will be shortned to Tris I expect.

Raven - again, quite like if you and dh are dark. It just won't seem right if you're all blonde and fluffy (like my dds - they couldn't be further from Ravens!)

I also know a TRinity. Bit pretentious IMHO - it gets shortened to Trinny, if you don't mind the connotations of that!

Moomin · 28/05/2008 07:59

Oh I also know an Eden (hark at me). It gets shortened to Edie which is lovely I think.

AtheneNoctua · 28/05/2008 08:01

I don't care for any of them, but I'm a safe name kind of girl.

Can we have the rest of the list?

Moomin · 28/05/2008 08:03

Oh and also worth remembering perhaps that Ravens were once seen as the portents of evil. Lady Macbeth says "The raven himself is hoarse/ That croaks the fatal entrance of Duncan/ Under my battlements". The audience would have seen the raven as warning of the murder to come.

ChuffyKrumhorn · 28/05/2008 08:28

Oh, forgot to give my opinion on the others...

Trinity makes me think of the Triune God (as in, Father, Son and Holy Ghost": The Holy Trinity).I agree with the post suggesting it sounds as though it is three-in-one grouping as opposed to an individual.
-Sort of akin to naming a child "Duality".

Tristan has a negative meaning, SAD/Tragic Hero.
*Also, not sure you have it over there across the Atlantic, but "Dristan" is an over the counter nasal spray used to treat stuffy nose.

Eden is alright...again, a little biblical, but not as 'religious' sounding as Trinity.

Raven: I agree that it is a very appropriate choice for a raven-haired, olive skinned, brown eyed child.
*Otherwise, it can sound contrived --like a name adopted by a teenage girl who dresses only in black, likes role playing games and is going through a "Wiccan phase".

JessJess3908 · 28/05/2008 16:17

Willow - was the red haired gay witch in Buffy. V cool but you should be warned that there are a lot of us buffy fans out there who will associate it.
Tristan - knight of the round table, manly but romantic.
Raven - My fave! for boy or girl? will the baby be dark?
Trinity - least fave of 4.

They are all quite medieval & romantic sounding, which is v cool and should last the test of time.

learningallthetime · 29/05/2008 14:52

I think the only serious contender is Willow.

Thanks everyone for your honesty!

I have just posted on another thread asking how often your children's names have been mentioned on baby name threads (it has only been once or twice)

Now I read through this and both dd's and ds's names are mentioned.

seeker · 29/05/2008 23:26

I am SEROIUSLY puzzled by Trinity! The only contexts I've seen it in are the Matrix - and surely people aren't naming their children after her, and Holy - which is even more bizarre!
Or is it like those fab Puritan names Praise the Lord Smith and If I sinned I shoulds't be Damned Jones.
