A baby called Dilly just popped up on my feed. Seriously what a bloody stupid name.

When I am King Dilly Dilly you shall be Queen.

Silly billy Dilly has a willy.

Piccadilly line

Short for Daffodil maybe?

Dilly the dinosaur.

I can see it as a nickname for Delyth, Dilys or Cordelia. I hope for the child's sake it's not the name on the birth certificate.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 13/07/2025 11:49

I thought it was an adjective meaning gormless or similar?!

Screamingabdabz · 13/07/2025 11:50

It’s short for Dilys. A beautiful name imo.

LuckyNumberFive · 13/07/2025 11:50

Nickname for Delilah maybe

ZanzibarIsland · 13/07/2025 11:53

Makes me think of lovely Dilly Carter. I like it

ZanzibarIsland · 13/07/2025 11:54

Silly billy Dilly has a willy.
Are you 5?

foreverand · 13/07/2025 11:55

for a girl or boy? I know a Dillan who’s nicknamed dilly but he’s 4 hopefully they will stop when he gets older

teksquad · 13/07/2025 11:55

Short for Dylis. My 14y old has a friend with this name. They affectionately call her Dilly. Its a totally normal name to them, as are any tbh as kids have a much wider diverse set.of names these days than in our day of all the Sarahs and Daves.

Ive never heard of the willy rhyme? (and you're stretching it a bit with Picadily, cm on)

Needmorelego · 13/07/2025 11:59

It's quite old fashioned but I like it.
The rhyme with willy is nothing.
The 10 gazillion girls called Milly (and boys called Billy) don't seem to worry about that.

ShamrockShenanigans · 13/07/2025 12:00

I mean if an adult is going to act like a 3 year old over someone else's name, they're going to do it anyway.

The actual name is neither here nor there.

and 7 trillion Lilys 😆

RightOnTheEdge · 13/07/2025 12:02

I love Dilly Carter and none of the things you've said have ever accured to me when I've heard her name.

You sound embarrassingly immature.

TrashPanda · 13/07/2025 12:03

My cousin is Dilly, short for Cordelia. I think it's lovely.

shellyleppard · 13/07/2025 12:04

Made me think of the song by marillion 🤣🤣

NuffSaidSam · 13/07/2025 12:08

I don't like it, but I don't think it's got the tease potential that you're imagining. Particularly not rhyming with willy because as has already been pointed out there are lots of names that rhyme with willy...Tilly, Billy, Lily, Millie.

summertimeinLondon · 13/07/2025 12:08

I really like it. As pp have pointed out, plenty of kids called Milly and Lily — and also Tilly — so why not Dilly? Both Dolly and Dilly were popular in the past.

Could be short for Dilys, Delia, Delyth, etc.

TheyFuckYouUpYourMamAndDad · 13/07/2025 12:10

My best friend in primary school was called Delyth and we called her Dilly. Nobody ever rhymed it with ‘Willy’ or (ffs!) Piccadilly!

Grow up!

LucasBuck · 13/07/2025 13:12

It’s okay. Not my taste but I don’t see on principle that it’s any different than popular Milly or Tilly and they don’t get teased (names like Lily, Emily, Cecily etc, I personally view more positively as they feel more established as names to me -I’m more of a traditionalist).

OkieDoke123 · 13/07/2025 21:59

Yeah fair points about other rhyming names like Lily, etc.

This isn’t short for anything, just Dilly.

I’m just sick of Instagram showing me birth announcements all the time and implying I should be over the moon that some stranger in a trailer park has sprogged yet again. My own baby was stillborn and it’s just a bit much to manage to find happiness for them sometimes.

Azandme · 13/07/2025 22:01

In my part of the UK dilly is slang for someone who lacks common sense/is stupid.

ShamrockShenanigans · 13/07/2025 22:02

Gosh, I'm sorry your child was stillborn but I don't think you should be so nasty about other people's births/babies etc.

Runningismyhappyplace50 · 13/07/2025 22:03

I like it! Know a Delilah who goes by Dilly (secondary school age).

YourejustmadbecauseIhaveaChad · 13/07/2025 22:05

I prefer Dilbert.

TheSandgroper · 14/07/2025 11:44

Well, if you were Australian, I would advocate against it.

look up DILLIGAF.
