Angelina - I didn't get many responses and am still debating

It's such a pretty, girly name, strongly associated with Angelina Jolie, that I think there would be a pressure on the girl to be girly and pretty - to fit her name, rather then make the name fit her.

What about Angela?

honest is one thing teuch, but the mousy kid comment from that made me laugh after.........

I have now made up my mind

I think it's ok - not one I'd choose, but different (I don't know a single Angelina in RL), and quite pretty/feminine. Her friends will only think of her as 'Angelina' (or Angie etc if shortened), and any connotations will be short lived. If you and your dh like it, then I wouldn't let what other people think hold me back as most folk come round to names they're not keen on to begin with as they grow to like the person with the name iyswim.

I have known of 3 Angelinas - Jolie (sleb )and the ballerina (fat mouse in a tutu ) and a girl who was n my sister's class at school who wasn't delicate or pretty particularly and who was called Angie all the time.

It would be my choice TBH - I prefer Angela

I like Angelina, but it would have to be for someone petit. I don't think it would suit someone heavy boned.

I think it would be shortened to Ange or Angie, which I don't like.

thanks aero and thanks everyone for their opinions. I really like it a lot, it is a family name and goes well with the surname. I am now (very) aware of the connotations negative or otherwise and am v happy to go ahead. It also suits our cultural background and we have a pretty second name too go with it.

We are all tall and rather delicate and slim on both sides of the family so hopefully she will follow suit..
