Is Frank too popular?

We had the name Frank in our head for awhile (over 4 years) but all of a sudden it seems to be the “it” name, I’ve heard so many people like it or say they know something who is thinking of that name too for theirs and it’s starting to put both of us off of it.

I don’t know if that’s just us being silly? I remember in school having about 5 Daniel’s and then never meeting another again.

Is there something we are missing from a pop culture point of view? Some famous Frank making the name trendy again?

Any names that have you have been put off by because of popularity?

I think it's part of the resurgence of names that were previously associated with old men. Ironically people look to the past when looking for something fresh. Until recently the only Franks I knew were pensioners. As for famous bearers, I haven't a clue. I really like it. It's short and snappy and suits a variety of ages and personalities. Love Frankie for when he's small. I say go for it!

Frank Turner, musician is well known but not so much recently

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 30/06/2025 08:45

It’s very popular yes, either on its own or short for Francis/Franklin

Frankie also a popular diminutive for girls

So if this bothers you I’d find something else - it’s risen very recently so it’ll keep going for a bit

I’ve literally never met a baby or child called Frank!

Sandmaennchen · 30/06/2025 09:29

I only know girl Frankies, short for Francesca.

Moveoverdarlin · 30/06/2025 09:34

Never ever met a child called Frank and I have three children in one primary school and work in a secondary school. Sorry I think it’s awful. The only Franks I know are now dead, in real life they’d be 100 plus by now.

I know about three Freddie’s under age 15 but that’s the closest.

Frank just reminds me of Frank Butcher.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 30/06/2025 09:45

I have a second cousin called Frank. He must be about 18 now.

I know a few (and 2 female Frankies/Francescas) but it isn't overly popular where I am. I like Francis, Frankie and Franklin but not overly keen on Frank by itself (i have no idea why and am aware it makes no logical sense!)

I don’t know any children called Frank across 3 schools locally, but maybe it’s popular with babies? My son has a top 5 name and there are no others with the same name in his whole school, so you’d be unlucky to have two in the same class with Frank.

CatsArePeople · 30/06/2025 12:36

i;ve only met old Franks

I have a Frank he is 6, we have never met another. We have come across Frankie’s but never another Frank.
DP wanted to use Franklin but I did not like it as it feels very different to Frank.
He was Frankie when younger, he is sometimes Franny but mainly just Frank

we love it

lenalove · 03/07/2025 13:51

I know an 18 month old Frank and the name suits him perfectly. His parents are quite quirky and it fits their whole vibe.

Snorlaxo · 03/07/2025 13:56

I think it’s because Frankie can be used for boys and girls (Francesca) so seems twice as popular as names that are just for boys (say Archie) I have 2 sons who are young adults and Frank is quite unusual but between them they know loads of people called Alex which is also a unisex nickname.
