Love these names. May choose once I hold my baby but these name polls are fun. Sex tbd, if boy he will be Nicolas (Nico).

Prefer Genevieve as a full name but Marcie / Marcy is an excellent nickname! Though Gen and Evie also great. You can’t get this one wrong, I don’t think!

Bagvir · 28/06/2025 20:29

Agree Marcie / Marcy is really nice for nicknames. Genevieve is nice but will be misspelt consistently, Gen is boring and if you like Evie you might as well call them that.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 28/06/2025 20:33

Genevieve is magnificent!

applegingermint · 28/06/2025 20:33

There’s a couple of different ways to pronounce Marcella - Mar-chella, Mar-sella or Mar-kella. I don’t mind the first, the second is a bit meh and the third is very harsh in English.

Genevieve is a beautiful name.

Moreteaandchocolate · 28/06/2025 21:00

I voted for Marcella because Marcie is so lovely and works well for all ages, yet you very rarely hear it.

Genevieve is nice too but none of the short versions are quite as nice or unusual as Marcie.

naomicrobiome · 28/06/2025 22:03

I like both. Marcella is a bit fresher.

Chazbots · 28/06/2025 22:06

Isn't that the name of the dude in Pulp Fiction?

ExemplaryVegetable · 28/06/2025 22:14

Is it pronounced Mar-chella? If so it sounds lovely, but you wouldn’t shorten it to Marcie as in the PPs.

If you wanted the S sound then a “GoT” Myrcella would work!

Douane · 28/06/2025 23:49

Marcella

Genevieve 💯

Marcella is a bit Marbella

I love Nicholas / Nico

Beccajf · 29/06/2025 14:25

I prefer Vivi, with Evie being so trendy,

Marcella was my grandmother’s name. But her nickname was Sally, rather than Marcie/Marcy!

If she’s mostly going to go by Vivi or Marcie day to day, then maybe pick which of these you prefer? It would be Marcie for me.

Genevieve to Vivi doesn’t even make sense? That sound doesn’t even come up in the name? Surely Vivi would be for Vivian?

You shouldn’t forgo trend at the risk of losing any logic.

marshmallowpuff · 30/06/2025 00:21

I’m not a fan of Marcella, sorry OP! It makes me think of a villainess in an Agatha Christie novel. Genevieve is lovely, and gives you more options for shortened versions.

I know several and they're all Marsella.

mathanxiety · 30/06/2025 06:08

I think Genevieve is very meh.
It's a name spawned by the juggernaut Olivia, along with Ava and Vivien/ Vivienne. It has the fashionable V sound, but it's basically a name trying to be a little less uber popular than Olivia or Ava but still in the same ballpark. It's also a descendant of Jennifer - I know two who have grandmothers named Jennifer.

Marcella otoh has a lovely Roman ring to it and a lot of pizazz.

An older friend of my DM's always went by Sellie.

No, it's pronounced Marsella. No need to tinker with the spelling.

It was popular in Ireland 60 to 80 years ago.

It depends what European pronunciation you want to take. Greek and Italian colleagues over the years have not used the Mar-sella pronunciation.

Krakinou · 30/06/2025 13:19

I prefer Marcella, but love Ginevra, Ginny for short.

Yeah I don’t get this, I have a name pronounced differently in my parents home country but we live in the UK so I have an English pronunciation for my name.

If they want Marcella to sound different they should spell it different Marchella or Markella if it matters.

If you live your life in an Anglophone country you're going to be fine with the S pronunciation.

You can cross the bridge of Italian and German colleagues' pronunciation if and when you come to it.
