A pregnant friend likes the name Hettie for her daughter. Is it short for something?

Henrietta?

CantSleepWontSleep · 24/05/2008 14:53

Henrietta. Lovely name as long as you don't have a noun for a surname.

madamez · 24/05/2008 14:54

Hmm. Hetty Waintrhop Investigates. Mad old bat in floral frock. Is that the sort of associations you want?

findtheriver · 24/05/2008 14:55

Bit old ladyish i agree

nickytwotimes · 24/05/2008 14:56

Tis old liadyish, but I think it's a lovely name.

popsycal · 24/05/2008 14:57

I know a 6 year old Hetti. she is very sweet

I love Hettie. It can be short for Hester, which I also love.
There is a place in Nympsfield known as Hetty Peglers Tump, and a children's book (I have it somewhere) about a witch with the same name. A nice witch, who keeps getting it wrong, so no evil connotations I know of.

Collision · 24/05/2008 16:47

Hettie is sweet but Im not sure a 15 yr old would want it.

Neither would I actually and I am 37!

Amandella · 24/05/2008 16:50

Ooh I like it! Very pretty and unusual....

branflake81 · 24/05/2008 16:55

isn't it short for Henrietta? Bit snooty, imho.

RustyBear · 24/05/2008 16:56

It's not that different from Hattie - DD has a friend Harriet, who chose to become Hattie as a tenager, but it usually ends up as Hats.

So Hettie would probably end up being called Hets by her teenaged friends

cornsilk · 24/05/2008 16:59

I like it.

Madamejaffa · 24/05/2008 17:06

I love it,
Hattie (Harriet) and Hetti (Henrietta).....

yes maybe a little snooty.... but thats OK

Madamejaffa · 24/05/2008 17:09

We called ds (PFB) Harrison, then had two girls.... we didn't do Harrison, Harriet and Henrietta though.

JessJess3908 · 30/05/2008 21:55

Our bump is nicknamed Henrietta as DP's surname is a noun - and to make it better its the name of a huge farm yard animal (let's pretend it's horse). So if we had a Hettie, she would be Henrietta Horse. Say it out loud, you'll soon get it.

Had my nan cracking up, even stopped her crying about me being pg in the first place!

devonsmummy · 31/05/2008 11:13

DH's nan was Hettie - her full name was Hethrine

GreenElizabeth · 31/05/2008 17:45

I don't like it at all. I love Lottie, so I don't know why I dislike Hettie so much. It's illogical.

bikerunski · 02/06/2008 12:37

I know a Hetty short for Heather.

PuppyMonkey · 02/06/2008 12:39

Is it Bull Jess?

kirstymcc · 02/06/2008 21:33

I like it. Lots of 'old lady' type names seem to be popular like Molly, Olive and Tilly.
