I do know a Nadine she is 19 - great name

KayEmAy · 09/06/2025 20:57

A bit dated for me

FleurDeFleur · 09/06/2025 20:58

Would that be Nad - een, or Nayd - een?
It's nice, I know 2, both in their 40s.

Fantasticfrollics · 09/06/2025 21:03

Feels dated to me and doesn't have a nice sound to it

Nay-deen

Go for it. She'll be the only one in her class among all the Wrens and Margots!

Moreteaandchocolate · 09/06/2025 21:32

I quite like it - slightly dated maybe but, as the pp said, at least it makes a refreshing change!

ZiggyZowie · 09/06/2025 21:38

Prefer Nadia

Fairyvocals · 09/06/2025 21:40

Nadine Dorries springs instantly to mind.

AnneMarieW · 09/06/2025 22:05

Much prefer similar Nadia as it’s not the “Nad” sound that’s the issue imo - it’s the “ine/een” one. Most of the “ine/een” names tend to sound quite dated - Pauline, Christine, Maxine, Kathleen, Doreen, Maureen etc are generally at least middle aged, if not often older (I know there’s Nadine Coyle but she’s the exception that proves the rule, unless it’s a more commonplace name for younger women in Ireland?)

So for that reason it would be a no from me for Nadine, as personally I like the sound of names that are a bit more classic/could suit age.

Yes

Nadine is a bit Jeanette - I never think names like this translate well to English

ninjahamster · 09/06/2025 23:18

Not a fan but I’m another who likes Nadia.

Same for me.

Not someone I'd want to risk people thinking I'd named my dd after.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 09/06/2025 23:57

Same re Nadine Dorries!
Nadia is much nicer

Zonder · 10/06/2025 00:00

Dorries. It's a no from me.

AmelieSummer25 · 10/06/2025 00:22

Dorris here too.

BethDuttonYeHaw · 10/06/2025 00:38

I know loads in their 30s to’50s

PinkyShrewbridge · 10/06/2025 01:33

It is a lovely name. Nice to have something that is not being used by everyone else.

DeSoleil · 10/06/2025 01:43

Awful. My daughter had one in her class and the girl was always called ‘Nads’ which unfortunately always made me think of the hair removal stuff or ‘gonads’.

She wasn’t very nice either.

It’s ok but quite 80s. I prefer Nadia too.

Nay-deen

How do you get Nad from Nay-deen? If you call her Nad, people will automatically assume the Nad-een pronunciation of her full name.

Regardless, I'm in agreement with the majority I'm afraid. The name is dated and 'Nad' makes me think gonads. It's not a name I would choose but each to their own.

SirChenjins · 10/06/2025 02:19

I think of Dorries - and while her classmates won’t for obvious reasons, I wouldn’t want anything in my life that is associated with that vile piece of work.

Enko · 10/06/2025 02:21

I quite like it

Neurotoxic · 12/06/2025 07:27

Nadine Coyle
I like it :)

ScouserInExile · 15/07/2025 09:43

It's my name and I know it's hated now because of the Tory woman.

But mine is pronounced Nay-deen and this pronunciation is generally shortened to Nade not Nad.
