What are your thoughts on the girl name Eliana?

I like Ellie more than the full name Eliana.

Eliana is a common name in Portugal, my niece is half Portuguese and is called Eliana, however it’s pronounced more like IL-ee-ah-nah over there (had to make the L capital to differentiate between the I and the L on phone)

A child I know is called Eliyanah, which is pronounced Eli-yar-nah.

its I did ask her mum if I was pronouncing it wrong as I was saying Eli-an-ah and she told me that it’s yar not ah as she pronounces it a Hebrew way I think she said.

As pp mentioned maybe its a north/south thing. As I've never come across the name before I wouldn't automatically prounounce it with an ar sound

I like it (and would pronounce it Ellie-ah-nah) BUT some people will pronounce it Ellie-anna and there will be times when people email her with Hi Eleanor / Elena / Ellie / Liana. People are annoying and WILL get it wrong. How much will that annoy you?

It's yet another Ellie name with an overload of vowels.
Ellie is OK but overused. I don't like the -arna bit at all.

I am Easy Anglia born and bred and I can't think of any other way of saying Yvonne than Ee-von! How else do you say it?

Less eee than the East Anglian way. People named Michelle and Elaine are better examples - they got called Meeshell and Eeelane rather than Mish-shel and Elle-ayne

Too similar to all the other Elli...Ail...Eile...Aeil... names that are ubiquitous at the moment, so may well become dated very quickly. It will definitely be shortened to Ellie at school.

DD was at school with an Eliana. No problem in pronouncing her name, which is as you describe.

Ok but all frill. Like a pudding that is all squirty cream. Too many variants at the tail end of the popularity of Ellie etc. if you love it it's fine. I know it's an established name but just hasn't got much to it.
