Lydia, Nancy middle class
All others not.

I think with names it changes via era

Lydia - originally I would say mc but it is becoming very popular and I think moving more towards wc

Abigail - wc in the 90s but I say more more class now

Natalie - same 80s / 90s wc but more mc now

Naomi - mc
Cady - wc
Ramona - unsure on this one
Nancy - mc but going more wc like Lydia

Melody - unsure

Cady and melody (working class)
The rest middle class

Same for me!

Mumofgirls2017 · 14/05/2025 07:36

Lydia- middle class. Biblical. More popular in 90s. Classic name though.
Abigail- getting dated a bit like Lydia; but a sensible choice
Natalie- too dated for me
Naomi- slightly dated, probably middle class
Cady- dislike, quite downmarket
Ramona- I love it and nn Romy but some will say sounds like re-moaner
Nancy- love it. Could be any class I think
Melody- like but maybe a little dated however never been hugely popular. Not super posh but not terribly downmarket.

Fearfulsaints · 14/05/2025 07:36

Fairly neutral to me. Maybe slightly more working class if I was forced to put them in a box.

Localised · 14/05/2025 07:39

Natalie is peasant tier. The rest are neutral except Cady which I've never heard of before

queenMab99 · 14/05/2025 07:48

You all have some weird ideas of 'class' and it's signifiers.

Sounds like something a Natalie would say 😉 get back to working the fields darling

RedOnyx · 14/05/2025 08:10

Most are just normal names that could go either way. There were at least 10 Natalies at my extremely working class school (in the middle of a council estate).

Lydia, Abigail and Ramona maybe tending a bit more towards middle class.

Cady I've never heard of - is it pronounced Caddy or Cadie (to rhyme with Katie)?

DeathMetalMum · 14/05/2025 08:14

Went to primary school in a very large working class/deprived area.

Natalie, Lydia Abigail all fairly common names. I think also a girl called Naomi.

Others unused.

wehavea2319 · 14/05/2025 08:14

None of them signify a particular ‘class’ to me

Reddelilah · 14/05/2025 08:32

Wow, what a strange way to classify names…..

I’d love to know what determines this so-called class? Money? Education? Style?

vincettenoir · 14/05/2025 08:34

I would say that those are some pretty names that are not very class-associated. They cross classes.

Spirallingdownwards · 14/05/2025 08:36

Never heard of Cady but it gives of Kaiden, Joden and other lower working class vibes.

To me Ramona will always be a batshit crazy Real Housewife of NY!

wehavea2319 · 14/05/2025 08:37

I’ve only heard of Cady in Mean Girls, and a recurring theme was everyone mispronouncing her name.

Same, and also seems like a female versiin of Cody.

Does it matter?
What class are you hoping the name will fit into?

PrettyPuss · 14/05/2025 09:27

Quite an eclectic list, OP.

Lydia and Nancy are my favorites there.

Probably trying to avoid one that evokes WC.

user3879208717 · 14/05/2025 09:30

Our kids are at a very posh school made up of WC people who’ve made a lot of money and actual posh people. Of your list, there is not a single child with any of the names, so I’d say mostly MC names!

I'm curious. Why do you think no wealthy MC people choose the school? There are heaps of wealthy MC people who send their children to expensive schools so I am fascinated why none attend that school?

None of those, I once saw someone on here say it's mother's age at childbirth. Under 20 is lower class under 30 is working class over 30 is middle class and upper class is paying for a surrogacy.

Just not sure where this puts my mother as she had her first child at 17 and her second in her 40s? Must be middle

sakuraspring · 14/05/2025 09:46

I've always assumed anyone who obsesses of what class they, or others, are, is a lower middle class Hyacinth Bucket type.
