We are thinking of naming DD Maisie - opinions?

I am OK with it. Probably judging on the Maisies I have known (none under 30).

maddiemookins16mum · 13/05/2025 20:53

Nope.

MrsKateColumbo · 13/05/2025 20:54

I had a lovely aunt called Maisie, she would be 110 ish now.

PurpleChrayn · 13/05/2025 21:12

Twee.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 13/05/2025 22:33

I don’t think your daughter will thank you when she’s an adult.

Why? I know plenty of adult Maisie’s who love their name?

Love

Reddelilah · 14/05/2025 08:30

I would not want to be called Maisie! It sounds so twee and comical and really doesn’t travel well.

Whiteflowerscreed · 14/05/2025 10:30

Nice for a child, not good for a strong woman

I think Macy looks like it should be pronounced Macky…to rhyme with tacky!

Why???
I must admit all the Jaxons, Tylers, Ronans, Apollos, Darcy’s and Miley’s probably won’t thank their mums either!

Asking these types of questions are pointless really, as not everyone likes every name. If you like it OP, go for it. Maisie is very popular here in South Yorkshire. My eldest (16) doesn’t have any in her year but my youngest (14) has 14 in her year. My youngest also has Rose as a middle name, which is also quite yucky on here but I actually wanted to call her Rose but my Nan vetoed it quite loudly (different story!).

As for those saying they won’t thank you when they’re older either, people come to accept their names. I’m a Director in the NHS and I’m just starting to see the Teddys, Mavericks, Romeos come through the ranks. Girls names (as yet) I’ve not come across anything radical but the two Teddys I do know go by Ted as they absolutely hate Teddy and aren’t Theo’s either.

What I will say is, wait until they’re born to name them. I was absolutely adamant on Amber for my first. There was no deviation. But when she was born she absolutely wasn’t an Amber and both she and I are happy with the name we went for in the end.

Watellz · 14/05/2025 11:16

Lovely at any age

HoopyGirl · 14/05/2025 13:42

Lovely name.

I wonder what an Amber would need to look like as a newborn? 🤔

Emanwenym · 14/05/2025 14:41

Keep wondering, @Reddelilah .

Viviennemary · 14/05/2025 14:41

No. But I've heard worse.

I will. I just can’t see how a tiny newborn would ever look like a ‘Sue’ or a ‘Amber or a ‘Sarah’…. they all look the same!

They don't. Sometimes a baby just doesn't look like the chosen name.

Jules198711 · 14/05/2025 18:49

It was my grandmother's name and I love it. I would of named DD Maisie if my cousin hadn't named her DD it first. There is also a little girl in Dds class named Maisie. There's quite a few around here I think, I'm in Scotland if that makes any difference.

Spidey66 · 14/05/2025 18:50

I like it.

Leaffilledlattice · 14/05/2025 19:05

It’s a bit ditzy, but if “sensible” isn’t your vibe then that’s okay.

itsallabitofamystery · 14/05/2025 19:58

@Reddelilahi just can’t describe it. I looked at her and thought “nope, she’s not an amber”. And that was that! And it was honestly the name I loved since finding out she was a girl.

stample · 14/05/2025 20:16

Escapingagain · 15/05/2025 21:57

It’s one of my favourites but I didn’t get to use it. Really pretty.
