I’ve never met any, ever, old or new! Lots of Alfies and Albies though.

Littletreefrog · 03/05/2025 20:30

I know a lot but they are all between 13 and 17. Haven't really heard it being used for new babies for a while.

Norastroud · 03/05/2025 20:56

I know a toddler Archer and an Archie who is 20. Its a lovely name, love Archie and nn Arch!

Theyhaveallbeenused2 · 03/05/2025 21:17

I have an Archie heard of a few close by but never met any. Quite often shortened to Arch but we also love it

I have a 16 year old Archie.
He gets called Arch now.

Sidebeforeself · 03/05/2025 21:54

Three ..but what does it matter? How many is too many?

Moreteaandchocolate · 03/05/2025 22:04

I don’t know of any across my children’s 3 schools, it’s all Alfie / Albie / Arthur’s round here. I really like Archie.

AmiablePedant · 03/05/2025 23:32

Er, Archie is itself a nickname; it is short for Archibald. Or at least it used to be in the olden days.

Letsummercommence · 03/05/2025 23:41

Niace part of SE here. I know of two both early 20's. I remember it was one of those old man names that were going to be super popular but in the end safer Harry, Charlie and Henry names were used more

There are lots more Alfie's between 5 and 25.

Robogob · 03/05/2025 23:52

Nephew aged 14, friend’s grandson 4.

Reddelilah · 04/05/2025 06:50

We know 3, aged between 2 and 17

Archie is already a nickname for Archibald or Archer

I really dislike it

notsureyetcertain · 04/05/2025 06:59

There’s two Archie’s in my sons year, I’m aware of two in the year above. My friends son gets arch a lot .

There are loads around me. There have been several at each school I've taught, at my children's school and at various clubs out of school. It's one of the most popular names around me for under 10s, and I know a few teenagers with this name too. If you're not aware of many in your area though I wouldn't worry too much about how popular other people say it is, as it really might not be that popular where you are.

My eldest has a top 5 name. She's still the only one in her school and I'm still yet to teach one myself. It really isn't an issue. Popularity changes from area to area.

I guess most boys called Archie will get the odd Arch, but day to day they all seem to be Archie in my experience.

.

user1492757084 · 04/05/2025 10:04

I know one teenager and two men over eighty.
Men are Archibald and known as Archie and Arch.
Boy is Archie and called Archie.
Know three boys under six named Archer and two are called Archie, one is called Archer.

HugoYorway · 04/05/2025 11:31

1 teenager and several dogs. 1 adult in his 20s but he's an Archibald.
I don't like the name. Archer is awful.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 04/05/2025 13:43

I know a few who are about 16, and one in his 70s.

Babyonion · 04/05/2025 21:33

My DS who is 6. I always loved the name, don’t care how ‘unpopular’ it is. I loved it since watching the tv series monarch of the Glen in the early 2000s and I had a bit of a crush on the main character Archie.

In his school there are no other Archies at all and we’ve only come across one other at his Beavers session.

MinPinSins · 05/05/2025 05:30

So, Archie the name peaked in 2020 when just under one in a hundred baby boys were called Archie, but that doesn't include Archibalds or Archers.

It's very much on the downswing/falling out of fashion, so he's more likely to come across slightly older boys with the same name than peers.

TortolaParadise · 05/05/2025 05:47

Only from Corrie as in Audrey and Archie.

HugoYorway · 05/05/2025 13:48

Who was/is Archie in Corrie. She used to call Alf Roberts Alfie.

TortolaParadise · 05/05/2025 16:58

Archie Shuttleworth was a undertaker; he proposed to Audrey but she turned him down. He was around during the Richard Hillman era.

HugoYorway · 05/05/2025 17:58

Thanks. Roy Hudd!

stanzatwo · 08/05/2025 19:01

I really dislike this name and yes it is popular. Very "laddish"
