I still love this name but it is a family name, I have a great uncle Arch, an uncle Arch - both are just Archie on the BC, they are both referred to as Arch and will introduce themselves as Arch so for me Archie is a name in its own right.
i would love to use this name but the negative comments on here do put me off slightly.
Is the name as bad as it appears on here or is it just because of its popularity?

It’s a lovely name 😊 And I like it as a name in its own right and think the nn Arch is great. Times are changing and nn’s as full names are the norm now.

You could give him an 'official' name on his birth certificate and just call him Archie anyway. Plenty of cultures do similar.

BoleynMemories13 · 08/04/2025 21:23

Whilst it's not a trend I'm fond of, plenty of people do use ie names on the birth certificate now so Archie is perfectly acceptable. Let's face it, the full versions of Archie aren't nice!

Popularity doesn't bother me at all. If Archie is what you like it. People put my eldest's name down all the time on here for being 'too popular' (the irony being that most of the names they pick in favour of it in polls, I usually know more of!). You need a thick skin to post here, don't take other people's comments personally as you'll never please everybody with a name.

Popularity doesn't bother me either. Nor most kids, most just want to fit in. Archie is lovely.

It's a no from me. It reminds me too much of Harry and Meghan, and I have no time for them.

I really don’t like the sound of arch at all….

And Archie is twee and overused imo

I like Archie, Arch and Archibald.

And I know one Chinese man called Ah Chee.

Callum Ah Chee is a Brisbane Lions footballer.

I think it's a great name!
The family connection would make it even better, I think.

The name Archie makes me think of the character Archie MacDonald in the tv series "Monarch of the Glen".

I think it's a great name. Use it. Why not?
