We have a Charlotte (Lottie) and I’m torn between these three

Cassandra (would be Cassie)
Philippa (Pippa)
Imogen (Immy)

please help me pick!

Philippa. I know quite a few Imogens and if you have a child whose name starts with C, I wouldn’t name their sibling something that also starts with C. Although Cassandra is my favourite of the three.

Sleepnplay · 28/03/2025 10:20

I have an Imogen so obviously love that, but also not keen on Immy and don't use it ourselves. Lots of other shortenings too, but if you love Immy then all good!

I love Cassandra and Cassie too, only thing that would put me off is a second 'C' initial just for post practicality, but plenty of people must manage this.

PressPauseontheMenopause · 28/03/2025 10:22

I have an Imogen (sister Hattie so similar to Lottie) and she’s always been called Imo, not Immy. Just a thought!

saraclara · 28/03/2025 10:28

I love Pippa and Pip.

I like Imogen but really don't like Immy.

Cassie seems somewhat dated as it went through a popular period about three decades ago. But it's fine.

I'd go Pippa though, and not even bother with the full Philippa.

TallulahBetty · 28/03/2025 10:37

Not Philippa (she's a baby, not middle-aged)
Cassandra/Cassie - nice
Imogen - nice, but don't like Immy

Gemstonebeach · 28/03/2025 10:43

All lovely names and lovely nicknames. As adults the philippas I know mainly go by their full name or Pip, Cassandra’s as full name or Cass and Imogen’s as full names.

Huh??? But she will be middle aged one day???

nachocheese · 28/03/2025 11:29

I have an Imogen, I love her name. We don’t use any shortening or nickname though. She’s just Imogen.

ginasevern · 28/03/2025 12:09

Imogen first choice, Cassandra second. Don't care too much for Philippa.

yikesanotherbooboo · 28/03/2025 12:11

Philippa is my favourite of those and I like it.
i quite like Imogen as it is Shakespearean but am not a fan of Cassandra with its connotations of doom.

KayEmAy · 28/03/2025 14:41

Team Cassandra (Cassie)

I never really understand this choosing to shorten perfectly beautiful names. Imogen is a lovely name which in my opinion is uglified by the nn Immy. Why not say Imogen? We have a 3-syllable name for our youngest and it's only rarely shortened to one syllable (a nice-sounding one). Imogen is lovely but I hate Immy.

Pippa is nice, Philippa is beautiful, likewise Cassie / Cassandra. The longer names are so musical, such a shame to shorten them

Thank you!

skinnyoptionsonly · 28/03/2025 15:43

Cassandra.
Pippa and Immy are awful. Imogen as a proper name is ok though

TwigletsAndRadishes · 28/03/2025 17:23

Imogen but I'd call her Imo, not Immy. Immy is too babyish.

Giddykiddy · 28/03/2025 21:41

great names - in order of preference Imogen, Cassandra and Philippa

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 28/03/2025 21:47

Philippa is my fave but not Pippa - Phil.

Don't like Immy really but Imogen is OK; Cassandra for me is either a tragic Greek heroine (?) or the chick from Only Fools, so I don't really like it much.

Emanwenym · 28/03/2025 21:50

Philippa, Cassandra or Imogen - all nice

Cassie - love it
Pippa - not keen, Pip is ok
Immy - not keen

Despite preferring the other two long names, i'd pick Cassie.
FWIW, I don't like Cassia, and Mimi is awful.

chick.FFS.

chick.FFS.

Sorry - I didn't realise this was a term that could upset. I'll stop using it.

Emanwenym · 28/03/2025 23:21

It only upsets me in that you sound like a man from the 1970s and not in a good way.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 28/03/2025 23:29

Philippa - I love it
Or Cassia nn Cassie - much nicer than Cassandra

Imogen is just ok

Daisyrainbows · 19/10/2025 07:32

Just to revisit with the update….

we now have baby Pippa!! (Philippa) and it suits her so well. Love it. Thanks for all the advice

also did google the meaning of Pippa in tons of other languages. Think she will have to be a full name Philippa when she visits Italy, Sweden, Greece etc

Imogen, but Immy, no.

FletchFan · 19/10/2025 07:41

I have an Imogen. We can her Immy as much as we call her Imogen. I prefer Imogen of course but Immy just rolls off the tongue.

To be fair you end up with other weird names for your kids anyway. I've got a friend who calls her son Jake 'Pog'. There's a story behind it I'm sure.
