Why are boys names so difficult???

We’ve got a little boy called Oscar, the only boys name we could agree upon at the time! We have another boy on the way now and can’t agree on a name at all!

The current list is:

  • Charlie Willis
  • Otis Willis
  • Jasper Willis
  • Otto Willis
  • Oliver Willis
  • Alfie Willis
  • Toby Willis

What does everyone think? Any names we might be missing?

Thanks

Of your picks I’d definitely go for Alfred (nn Alfie) - as it has a very similar “retro popular stately/patrician” vibe to Oscar (Alfie as a given name is a bit too trendy). 2nd choice Tobias or Jasper.

Not sure about Charlie as it’s a bit phonetic alphabet with Oscar and personally as much as I like Oliver, I’m not that keen on same initials for same sex siblings if there are other options.

I'd avoid another O initial so that takes out Otis, Oliver and Otto.

I'm not keen on Alfie and Charlie, they're both so popular and very meh.

I like Tobias, less keen on Toby.

Jasper is the winner for me.

Or:

Jude
Hugo
Freddie
Jacob
Elliot
Dylan

If I had a boy tomorrow I’d call him William. I love Otto out of your list. I’ve recently met a baby Heath which I really like and I once taught a boy called Shepherd. He is a young adult now and everyone calls him Shep. A cool name for a very cool kid.

I'm with most that I would avoid another O name, especially Otis which really doesn't go with Willis. Oliver is the only one I like anyway. Otis and Otto are far too trendy and 'now' for me.

Charlie is probably my favourite from the rest of your list (Charlie has been used as a stand alone name for years so doesn't feel as nicknamey as some ie names). However, I did instantly think phonetic alphabet with Oscar and Charlie. I think you could still use it, but you will get a lot of comments.

Toby and Jasper aren't to my taste, but go well with Oscar and your surname. Alfie is ok.

Toby is cute. What about Luke? Benjamin? Sam?

PurBal · 25/03/2025 05:19

I know an Oscar with a brother Alfie. So that sounds right to me. Also like Otis and Jasper.

cravingmilkshake · 25/03/2025 05:26

Every single one of your names above were names we considered - great taste! We eventually settled with Miles .

Jasper is my favourite about of all of the above .

becca3210 · 25/03/2025 05:36

Toby or Charlie sound nice. I’m not keen on Jasper but like Caspar as an alternative. I would avoid another O name.

SummerDaysOnTheWay · 25/03/2025 06:46

I wouldn’t pick another name beginning with O.
Jasper is lovely but sound / ends the same as Oscar.
I’d go with Toby from your list.

Other ideas:

Jake
Isaac
Lachlan
Albie
Leon
Spike

Like them all apart from Otis.
