I do enjoy the unrestrained batshittery of these baby name threads. The Quinn thread was shaping up to be a good 'un, but was sadly deleted - is the Abercrombie one still rolling on?

I think it's a nice name. Reminds me of Beauden Barrett the rugby player.

Far less people shop at Boden than this thread would lead you to believe, I'm the only one in my mum group that likes the stuff for her LO, so I wouldn't worry about that.

I don't like Beau personally for me, so that would put me off as I imagine that would be the nickname.

End of the day it's what you like, lots of people don't like me LOs name, on Mumsnet it's "twee" but I think it's simple and feminine which is what I wanted.

Wow I didn't know it was a real name!!

I don't like it cos it just sounds like Boden

But I am a fan of Beau

In my American head, when I hear what sounds like BOE-dyn I immediately think "Bowdoin" which is (primarily) a place name and then a surname. (Of course, these also can be and are commonly used as first names).

I've never seen the Beauden spelling before, and based on a quick online search it seems to tie to Beauden Barrett (as mentioned by Cilladog - a rugby player in NZ). I guess someone reading "Beauden" would know how to pronounce it, but it still strikes me as kind of arbitrary unless it's a family name or other association to a specific person or place.

What about Bodhi/Bodie? Still not my favourite but at least it's reasonably well known. DD1 has one in her class, and he gets Bo as a nickname.

Beauden does sound like the shop to me, and sounds kind of made up. Beau is a French word but Beauden is neither a French word, nor does it sound like a plausible French word to me (but I'm basing this on a level French 20 years ago so could be wrong).

Theoldwoman · 07/03/2025 13:45

Yes, after Beauden Barrett.
