Opinions on the name Cassia?

She was the main character in a book I read as a child and I loved it. Now I am older I’m not sure if it’s too “fussy” for an actual child.
opinions?

Love it! And she can always go by Cassie if she likes when she’s older.

loropianalover · 28/02/2025 20:54

Makes me think of Casio, but I don’t dislike it. I prefer Cassandra or Cassie.

MidnightPatrol · 28/02/2025 20:54

I like it.

Unusual but not so much so it wouldn’t be understood, easy to spell and pronounce.

TappyGilmore · 28/02/2025 20:56

Love it! DD had one in her class, I always thought it was pretty. It never occurred to me that it was fussy.

Lifelover16 · 28/02/2025 20:56

Cassia is the name of a spice similar to cinnamon. I’m on the fence when it comes to naming a child after it, but if you like the sound of it, it doesnt matter what anyone else thinks.

MaxandMeg · 28/02/2025 20:56

Cassia bark is good for the gut and lowers blood sugar.

curious79 · 28/02/2025 20:56

From the Latin word cassus meaning “empty” or “vain,” as well as the name Cassĭus meaning “metal helmet.” While these meanings are interesting, its most common translation in Latin is “cinnamon.”

MissScarlettInTheBallroomWithALeadPipe · 28/02/2025 20:57

Keziah is the Hebrew for cassia, and it sounds better.

Hmm not the best connotations then! Although I guess cinnamon is quite cute

Cinnamon is a very nice meaning.
Sage, Clementine, Honey, Rosemary, Pepper are all fine (although may have non-food origins initially).
I like it!

KayEmAy · 28/02/2025 21:26

I LOVE it. I think it's so beautiful in lots of languages and the perfect amount of uncommon.

wejammin · 28/02/2025 21:28

Cassia was my top choice for DC3 if he was a girl - but he was a boy. I debated Cassius for him but it didn't suit our surname. I love Cassia and I've got a bit of regret that I'll never get to use it. It's so pretty.

caringcarer · 28/02/2025 21:53

Cassiopeia and Cassy for short.

Eiris · 28/02/2025 22:24

Cassia is often sold as cinnamon.
They taste similar- difficult to tell the difference.
It is a lovely name.

Rainbow1235 · 28/02/2025 22:36

Love it

Mumofteenandtween · 28/02/2025 22:55

I like it but I like Cassandra even more.

Onlyvisiting · 28/02/2025 23:19

It says cinnamon to me. Not necessarily bad, but something to be aware of.
Think I'd go cassidy or cassandra with a nn of cass /cassie/ myself.

DreamingOfASilentNight · 28/02/2025 23:25

Automatically think of bark as in the spice, but I think I'm just odd.
Is it pronounced Cass--ee-uh or cash-uh? I can see both could be possible and have never known.
I think she'll be called Cass or Cassie , she r cash depending on the pronunciation generally so if you're ok with that go for it.

Like it written down but wouldn’t know whether to pronounce it Cassie-a or Cash-a. I prefer the former.

Like how some people pronounce Alicia Aleesha and others Alyss-ia.

OneFineDay13 · 28/02/2025 23:50

I really like it

Emanwenym · 01/03/2025 18:34

Go for it.

mummysmagicmedicine · 01/03/2025 19:36

I grew up with one and was always envious of her name!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 02/03/2025 01:23

Love it - have never understood why it is so underused as it has dual references (both as a nature name and Ancient Roman) and a pleasant sound and cute nn in Cassie. What’s not to like?

Inyournewdress · 02/03/2025 02:56

I really like it, but I would hesitate as I had a lisp as a child and that name would have made things hard for me!
