Accidental name theme - continue it?

Hi all,

I have 2 DS whose names begin with the same letter. I said accidental in the title because it wasn't a conscious decision to do that, they just were the names we liked, and I wasn't fussed about the same letter thing.

Now DC3 is a possibility and I'm wondering if it's better to also give them a name with this same letter, or to choose a different letter? Would they feel left out if so? But is three with all the same first letter a bit weird? There will almost certainly not be any more kids after number 3.

We thought about a different letter but same sound, for example if we have Callum, Connor and Kit, or Jacob, Jack and Gemma. Would that be an ok compromise or a bit odd?

I didn't consider a third child when naming these 2 and just interested to hear what people think (if anything) when they see siblings all with the same first letter.

It's worse to do a different letter but same sound ala the Rooney's.
The issue there is that they used a K spelling for DC2 (and DC1?)
K, C, K, C would have been less remarkable

Don’t do it, it’s tacky

Reassuring that most people feel the same as me, that all matching is a bit twee/cringe, and that one of three probably won't feel left out (but one of many more might do!).

As it is, we don't have another potential name with this letter that we both like, which is why I wanted to ask, because in all likelihood we would end up with one different.

I also follow the American Christian family with 19 kids all starting with J and you can tell they really ran out of inspiration halfway through 🤣

On the post thing, I lived with DH's family for a while in lockdown and me and MIL have the same initials and now surname, and I did end up opening her post a couple of times (lord knows why I thought anyone was writing to me at my MIL's house, because they weren't.) but I just opened it on autopilot.

Thanks for all the opinions!

And even if as a society we still continue to get post, what's to stop people using first and second initial? I'm in the US, and post is always addressed to Firstname - Middle Initial (optional) - Surname. There's no faffing around with titles and no use of just a first initial and surname.

My husband and one of my son have the same initial first name and both have the same surname. However they have a different letter middle name. When he lived at home I was surprised at how many organizations including financial, NHS and government type letters omitted the middle initial and did not use the full first name.

No. Like others say, it just comes across as tacky and Kardashianesque.

They have K, K, K then C but the C is a K sound.

I know you’d think that post wouldn’t be an issue anymore. But you’d also think a multinational multibillion pound company could pay someone based on something other than their initial and surname. But ..

I would choose a name with a different letter - even if you happen to love a name with the same letter.

Twice is a coincidence, three times is a theme and begins to look a bit contrived. If you ended up having more than three children altogether, you would eventually run out of names you liked with that letter and I think it looks stranger to change the letter the more times you have used it. I know of a family who have 5 children called (not their actual names but the naming pattern is the same) something like Melissa, Marie, Michael, Matthew and Ella-Rose. That looks strange to me. I also know of a family where two have the same initial and the other two don't, so more like Melissa, Marie, David and Susanna. That doesn't make ne thing they tried to be matchy and failed, it just makes me think they really liked the names Melissa, Marie, David and Susanna.

Having read your update OP, I’d definitely avoid using a name with the same letter if there isn’t a name you particularly like! I think deliberately matching initials is a bit contrived, although it’s probably fine if you just happen to love three separate names with the same initial.

It wouldn’t strike me as odd at all if two of three siblings shared the same initial.
