We have a long list of baby girl names and keep going round in circles trying to whittle it down. Let me know what you think!

I love Etta, Clementine will be called Clemmy by dds friends. I have one and she was called Clemmie in nursery and it stuck.

Mabel - not keen
Willa - awful, too close to Willy
Edith (Edie) - not keen
Florence - fine
Etta - yes but only with Clementine as a middle name Grin
Clementine - see Etta
Phoebe - fine

Mabel- beautiful
Willa- not a fan- kids might say “willy”
Edith (Edie)- lovely but prefer Mabel
Florence- pretty and love Florrie or Flossie for nicknames but so overused where I am. I work with children and see at least one a week
Etta- beautiful
Clementine- beautiful but some criticised when I suggested saying it was too pretentious
Phoebe- nice but a bit bland

Mabel is my favourite and Clementine but many turn their nose at that one. Etta is lovely too but difficult to sometimes pair with middle/surname

EnterNowhere · 17/02/2025 00:49

I like Mabel, Edith (Edie), Florence, Etta & Phoebe.

Ellmau · 17/02/2025 00:51

Phoebe is beautiful and Clementine is quite nice. Not keen on any of the others. Really dislike Willa.

Mabel
Willa
Edith (Edie)
Florence
Etta
Clementine
Phoebe

They're almost all very the, "in", names.
If you must though, Phoebe.

Fintoo · 17/02/2025 01:01

I know a couple of dogs called Mabel, that might not matter to you though.
Etta would be my pick from list. I also really like Phoebe but know several so I guess it’s quite popular.
I’m not so keen on the rest.

FloofyKat · 17/02/2025 01:13

I like Florence (Florrie / Flo) and Clementine (Clemmie / Clem). Don’t like the others.

IsThePopeCatholic · 17/02/2025 04:32

Phoebe and Edith get my votes.

Tenlittlemonkeys · 17/02/2025 09:50

Thanks everyone - seems like Phoebe is a clear winner!

Mabel or Edith, both lovely can't pick between them

Winnie876 · 17/02/2025 20:51

Mabel - so sweet but (I know this sounds stupid) my DD so wouldn't be a Mabel. I think of a gentle nature and my DD is a force to be reckoned with 😂
Willa - love it, always have since I read a Willa Cather novel as a teen - and Sophie Turner named her daughter it I think. I think it's really cool too.

Edith (Edie) - I sort of like the granny charm but wondering if it's had its day... Love Eden and wish it wasn't used by a friend of my husband and his wife!
Florence - beautiful but popular if it bothers you?
Etta - not so keen as it feels like a nickname - love Henrietta though!
Clementine - cute but wondering if it'll age with them well. Can imagine it more on a toddler and girl but not so much a woman
Phoebe - lovely! Love fresh sounding names like this.

Good luck whittling down! Really lovely selection. Hopefully our critiques will help. MN's honestly massively helped when naming our DD.

@Tenlittlemonkeys

Mabel
Willa
Edith (Edie)
Etta
Clementine
Phoebe

None of the above. I know old lady names are fashionable, but you have to choose the right ones, - there are many which sound fresher - but the above list feels rather fusty and Edwardian in the wrong way.

LilacPony · 18/02/2025 03:36

Love -
Mabel
Florence
Etta
Clementine

(admittedly I knew an adult Clementine and she hated her name)

AmiablePedant · 19/02/2025 02:55

Er, so you're giving birth to your great grandmother?
But Phoebe is pretty. And Edith is moderately timeless.
