Have decided on a name for a girl - but everyone hates it!

Delilah - is it really that bad? It's the only first name we can agree on (her middle name will be Rose) and we both love it.

Everyone we mention it to either says 'hmmm, unusual' or asks if we'll call her 'Deli' for short (have managed thus far not to point out that it's not pronounced 'Deli-lah').

Other names I like (and DP hates) are Cordelia, Mariella, Serena and Isabella (definitely liking names ending in 'a' at the moment).

Ignore them. we got a few "ohhhhhs", "how lovely" and "is it a family name?" when we told people about name we'd chosen for dd2, but now bf (who was one of the worst) has admitted it does suit her personality. DD2's name is Meredith BTW
If you and your partner agree that is one less thing to worry about.

I love Delilah. It's really really nice and original. Nothing wrong with thinking about a song when you hear the name. You can dance around the room to the song with her in your arms. She'll love it. Friends of mine called their daughter Layla and nobody really refers to the song though.

You may not call her Deli though. Something else could emerge organically.

Cordelia is lovely too. I wanted that for my DD but DH wanted Ophelia so that's what she is. She's now know as Gigi. I have no idea why!

And to a certain extent you have to shrug off other people's negativity about your chosen names.

its lovely

Its a great name - fantastic choice. if you choose a popular name like 'Emma' people would comment on that . not everyone can like every name - if we did, we would all have the same name. ... dont be put off by other peoples comments or looks. my son has a 'different' name and now he is here, he suits the name and people say great name, however when i was preg i also had funny looks and comments.
your baby .. dont let other people put you off a name you feel is the right name for your new baby.
its a brilliant name - stick with it . xx

I love the name Delilah its my dd2 name (9 months)! I have to say I don't normally get that many ooh comments on it - but they are probably still trying to get to grips with my dd1 name when I tell them...that's Kiki.

Lovely name I got totally obsessed with names ending in 'a' when I was pregnant with both my dds ending up with Sofia and Olivia - isabella was my next choice!!!

I like it. Prefer Cordelia mind you! But There is a bit more to Delilah than Lila. Lila is a bit too insubstantial on its own imo, and there are a fair few about.

Other song names, Cecilia, Susannah, Matilda...... all lovely names. I would never be about to use one and then NOT use one because of a song!

I like Delilah if you can deal with the connotations of the Bible story and people bursting into song.

Cordelia* and Serena are nice, too. Isabella a bit too popular for my taste but you might not mind that. Mariella just makes me think of Frostrup.

*As long as your dp isn't mad or Royal and you don't end up with three girls.
