My Baby Names List 2025

AubernFable · 29/01/2025 01:23

I thought this might give Mumsnet a giggle. My baby name opinions are like Marmite, definitely not popular on here from what I’ve seen, but I’d love to hear your opinions, suggestions, and jokes equally. Both DH and I have long names, and I think that’s what made me so nerdy about names because of the history behind them. I love the sound of a longer first name with two middle names, as well as classic, literary or vintage names, but ideally avoiding the ‘three in the same class’ scenario.

I have collected these names from all over the place, working with young children has ruined a good few names for me- these are the survivors! I’m not currently pregnant, but I would use any of these in some combination. Since I’ve been curating this list for over a decade, I doubt anything you say will change the fact I love them- so please, keep it lighthearted! x

Also, I struggle with boys names a little more, if you have any suggestions with a similar vibe I would appreciate it.

And Agatha

Enko · 30/01/2025 01:35

To me these are pretty bog standard mm names. You have a couple less so (Blythe, lavander, isidore, Leander) however if you were to tell me you named the baby any of the others I wouldn't raise an eyebrow.
They are fine pretty normal names.

I like Flora but coiud not use with our air name. Daphne was 2nd on the list for dd2 ita a gorgeous name.

I am fond of Leander but it doesn't get much love on mn.

EzWin2 · 30/01/2025 10:17

Love is also on my list of middle names. I also like Loveday, it’s Cornish.
From your list my favourite is combinations are:

Florence Juliette
Felicity Blythe
Rosalind Edith
Tallulah Love
Isadora Violet

Caspian Silas
Gabriel Tobias
Augustus Verne
Quentin Soren

My personal favourite ‘soft’ boys name is Shiloh James.

I agree and don't think they are particularly 'marmite'. Maybe some of your middle name suggestions are more unusual, but they hardly ever get used anyway.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 24/02/2025 23:54

You have some stunning names on there- I especially adore Antonia, Guinevere, Rosalind and Juliet (prefer this spelling) and Maximilian (with the nn Maxim), Rowan, Caspian and Nathaniel for boys. Those in particular have lovely literary and kind of romantic vibes to me.

But the only ones I really dislike personally are Archibald and Lavender (or even Roman Lavinia) - as I don’t think names with “bald” or “Lav” (lavatory) sounds are the best. Valentine might also get a few jokes- Valentin might be easier to live with.

I’d probably be tempted by Loveday as a middle rather than just Love, as I like its Cornish history. I also think Shakespearean Corin is nicer than Corbin for boys and prefer Alethea over Althea for girls but that’s personal taste.

For girls you might also like Corisande or Nerissa/Nereia? As for other boys name ideas - Heath has a similar vibe to some of those of your list imo, as does Octavian for some others and maybe Orin, Leal or Ivo too?
