Baby girl names, help!

oneofmeiscutebuttwothough · 25/01/2025 22:30

I welcomed my baby girl a few days ago, she was born early and is currently in NICU. She's just been going by "baby girl [last name]" because my husband and I have been so all over the place we've not been able to come up with anything.

I like the 'vibe' of Olivia, Isabella, Hazel etc., but we can't pick anything. Any help would be welcome!

Do you like the shortened versions of the name? That may put you off certain ones.

Thanks all, we think we like Elodie Violet, but it feels like such a huge task to name someone so small

Eloise.

WitcheryDivine · 25/01/2025 23:48

congratulations! Can only imagine how you’re feeling with your little one in NICU, really hope she is home soon and forever.

Elodie is a really beautiful sounding name and was on my list but when I tried it out loud it didn’t work for me, just felt weird saying it, so just start using it (between you and your husband) and see how it feels.

Similar names - Eleanor or Leonie? Both are beautiful.

RosePosse · 25/01/2025 23:50

Congratulations!

Holly
Leonora
Iris

From your list I like Hazel best.

WitcheryDivine · 25/01/2025 23:51

Carina means beloved. Kerensa means love in Cornish. Carissa is another name from the same sort of root.

Hazel is gorgeous. Not so keen on your others though, as v popular. Heidi, Holly, Tamsin, Cassia, Sasha, Fern are nice.

Pp suggested Amelia which sounds ugly (uh MEALY uh) and unfortunately the medical definition of amelia is absence of limbs.😱

Congratulations on your little girl, hope she is doing well.
Olivia and Isabella are both lovely names. Violet is a really pretty middle name too. I personally find Elodie a bit strange if not said in a French accent, but I know it is quite popular in the UK at the moment.
Other ideas -
Sophie
Lucia
Annabel / Annabelle
Rose
Lydia

Congrats OP! I've been following on your other thread. Why don't you try out Elodie for a while and see how it feels? You can always change it if it doesn't fit. We called DD2 one name for a day and actually it didn't seem right when we used it out loud. Tried our second choice the next day and she was that name ever since.

Don't rush into a decision, OP. Try out a few names you like for a while and make your minds up when something feels right.

Some suggestions:

Estelle
Louisa
Adelaide
Lucie
Elena
Diana
Rosalie
Iris
Briony

oneofmeiscutebuttwothough · 26/01/2025 10:03

Looking at her, we don't think Violet fits as a middle name.

This is hard!😂

Congratulations and best wishes. Flowers
Take your time to pick a name, you have weeks to decide.

Minarette · 26/01/2025 15:30

I don’t like Élodie unless it’s in a French accent. Not keen on Hazel or Isabella (I always think ‘is a bell’ end!)

Melody is nice (Didi for short).
Also Amelia, Sophia, Lillia

I like Olivia but it’s overused.

Middle name:
Hope
Faith
Iris
Faye
