What baby girl names do you think are overused?

Evie/Eva/Ava/Ivy/Evelyn type names
Ellie/Ella/El- type names
Lila/Isla
Mia/Sophia/Sofia type names
Lily/Lola/Layla/Lyra/Luna type names
Amelia/Emilia/Emily/Emmeline type names

Does it matter?

If you love a name then use it.....doesn't matter if its top 10 or top 1000.

Just my personal opinion, but I'd sooner saddle my child with an 'overused' name than some of the made up 'trendy' words (not even names) that I see on here.

Emanwenym · 10/01/2025 11:51

@sel2223 ,the OP wasn't asking if it mattered.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 10/01/2025 17:19

I wouldn’t say any single name is overused anymore. For example an Olivia will probably still be the only one in their class, maybe even their school year.

But there are a lot of popular names that aren’t related but sound so similar that there could certainly easily be two in a year or even class - ie. Mia, Maya and Mila, Eva, Eve, Ada and Ava, Ellie, Ella and Elsie, Evie and Ivy, Lily, Tilly and Millie, Lyra, Luna, Lara, Lyla and Layla etc or ones like Isabella and Isabelle or Sophie and Sophia. To me that’s the more important question to ask - not “how popular is this name?” but “Are there other names that sound quite similar so it could be confusing?”

(And imo ultimately that’s not even the most important question still- rather than being concerned about current popularity as such, I’d worry about whether it will likely stay popular over time. For example Charlotte, Emily etc are popular but fairly timeless- but equally lovely sounding Ava, Isla etc could be the “Karen” of 40 years time 😢 if they suddenly drop. That would be my bigger concern personally).
