So, I'm planning on boys names.
I think the name Cian is sooo cute and it's very rare, especially here in Sweden and it's beautifully pronounced in both Swedish and English.
What do you think?

It’s a lovely name when it’s pronounced in the correct Irish way

Moreteaandchocolate · 28/12/2024 21:49

Love it!

Bodeganights · 28/12/2024 21:50

Love it, how is it pronounced?

SkaneTos · 28/12/2024 22:18

I think it looks like a good name!
But I would not know how to pronounce it correctly (and I'm Swedish, by the way).

My guess would be See-an, but that might be completely wrong?

MadeForThis · 28/12/2024 23:03

Kee -an.

I like it.

Rosalina11 · 29/12/2024 14:38

Det uttalas "Kian"

WalterdelaMare · 29/12/2024 14:48

I work with a Cian, lovely name.

SabbatWheel · 29/12/2024 14:50

Nay.
I’ve taught loads and it gets pronounced all sorts of ways - Key-an, Kye-an and I’ve even taught one See-an.

Too many variables.

bugalugs45 · 29/12/2024 15:13

I know it's spelt differently but my mind went immediately to the Lidl own brand I'm afraid

TaranFollt · 29/12/2024 15:23

It's a familiar name in Wales. I know two boys with this name and they're both lovely, which makes me biased! It's pronounced Kee-ann here.

TwinkleLights24 · 29/12/2024 15:23

Isn’t that Lidls brand?

Berlinlover · 29/12/2024 15:27

Nay, it only sounds right when said with an Irish accent. It’s pronounced the same as keen btw.

UpMyself · 29/12/2024 15:43

A no from me. I'm not Irish, if I were, I might say yes.

Yes, I know an 18 year old Welsh Kian.

BarbaraHoward · 29/12/2024 15:53

I like it, I think it travels pretty well as well.

CreationNat1on · 29/12/2024 15:53

Love it.

ForgottenPasswordNewAccount · 29/12/2024 15:55

Really common irish name

Liv999 · 29/12/2024 17:41

I'm Irish and I love it, it's probably one of the easier Irish names to spell and pronounce, Kee-an

Heysoulsista · 29/12/2024 22:07

It is very beautifully pronounced in Swedish so I will say yay it's very cute ❤️

theduchessofspork · 30/12/2024 02:39

Nay.. I think having to correct it will drive him bonkers throughout life

DramaAlpaca · 30/12/2024 02:51

It's lovely as long as it's pronounced the Irish way - KEY-un, or sometimes KEEN which I don't like as much. As with most Irish names there are regional variations.

Edited

It’s sometimes said like that but it’s not the right way to say it (unless you say keen with 2 syllables?) It’s Key-un, with the emphasis on the Key part.

ThatMauveRaven · 30/12/2024 03:12

I’m Irish - have always had a strong dislike for Cian. Feels a bit downmarket

arcticpandas · 30/12/2024 07:03

Why not? People give all kind of names these days so even if it's rare in Sweden to hear Cian noone will lift an eyebrow. But isn't it a Lidl brand though? Or maybe it's Cien?

Heidi2018 · 30/12/2024 09:37

Love it. It was in the top 30 in Ireland in 2023. Great name. Rian (Ree-un) has also grown in popularity here over the past few years and is another name I love.
