I know how commonly Rose is used as a middle name, but how common is it as a first name? Just straight up Rose, rather than any variants. How many do you know/are there in your DC classes etc? Thank you.

Rose is a beautiful name.

Ignore the weird negative comments.

maras2 · 27/12/2024 05:03

.We have an 11 year old niece, Rose.
Beautiful name for a beautiful girl. ❤

Nettleteaser101 · 27/12/2024 05:10

Rose is a lovely name.

BeerForMyHorses · 27/12/2024 06:44

Beautiful name.

HoundsOfHelfire · 27/12/2024 06:46

I know one. It’s a beautiful name

Emanwenym · 27/12/2024 08:35

I'm not keen on it. I know some but they are not just Rose. I prefer Rose as a first name than as a middle name, and I'd use just Rose not Rosemary or something.

Dinodrivingacar · 27/12/2024 09:03

My DD is called Rose. She never gets called Rosie. There was another rose in her class at primary school. I know a few as I work in nurseries too. I love it, as does DD!

TulipTuesday · 27/12/2024 09:05

It’s a gorgeous name.

I know a 23 yo Rose.
She’s Rosemary on her BC, was known as Rosie when younger but Rose really suits the beautiful young lady she’s become.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 27/12/2024 10:06

I’m suprised by the couple of Rose West comments as Rose is such a popular name that it really isn’t linked to just one person (not like Myra).

Most Grandparents or Great- Grandparents will likely think of the flower first, parents and teachers will probably think Titanic or the several Hollywood actresses called Rose and children will just think of all their peers that undoubtedly have Rose as their middle name 🤣

Rose (Rosemary) West won’t be a blip on most people radar OP imo, unless your surname has West in it. It similarly hasn’t affected the popularity of Freddie and Frederick for kids (some of ones I know get shortened to Fred too).

Lovely name, I know of a 10 year old and a 4 year old Rose

user1492757084 · 27/12/2024 10:49

I know one 8 year old Rose in a swimming class.

One 34 year old Rosemary, called Rosie.
One middle aged Rosa.
One middle aged Rosemary, called Rose.
One middle aged Rosalind, called Rozzi.
One middle aged Mary Rose, called Rose.
Three old ladies, in their eighties, called Rosalie (Rose), Rosemary and Rosalind Rozzi.

Rose is the best variation, to me.

Caravaggiouch · 27/12/2024 10:52

I know 2, one is 4 and one is 6. Both have ended up being called Rosie a lot by others though, it’s hard to police your child’s nicknames.

welshpolarbear · 27/12/2024 10:54

I love it op. You'll just need to stand firm in the Rosie not being used. People will accept it.

Or you could use Rosa as that's less likely to have nn Rosie (I think?)

MolkosTeenageAngst · 27/12/2024 10:55

I know two, one is 5 and the other is probably 11 or 12.

Newgreensofa · 27/12/2024 10:58

Beautiful! My dear friend is Rose (actually Rosemary but goes by Rose which I think is pure and suits her so well - a retired nurse and genuinely beautiful soul). I would never call Rose “Rosie” although her little friends may, but that would be sweet and affectionate IMO. I didn’t even think of Rose West until someone mentioned it.

Clearinguptheclutter · 27/12/2024 11:00

I love it
totally overused as a middle or hyphenated name eg Lila-Rose but underused and just lovely as it is

undercoverhero74 · 27/12/2024 11:05

I know a few variants but only one true Rose and she is 5.
My mum is Rosina but has always been called Rose and it's also my daughter's middle name.
It is a beautiful name and not too common at all

rainbowstardrops · 27/12/2024 11:11

I worked in an infant school for over ten years and only had one rose in my class I think? She'd be about 8 or 9 now. It's a beautiful name. Classic, beautiful and timeless.

SandrenaIsMyBloodType · 27/12/2024 11:28

I have a Rose. She's 24 now and was always the only one in her schools. She likes it. It's pretty, everyone can spell it and it works quite well in other countries/languages. She's lived in a couple of different countries and it's been an easily understood/used name.
It was my grandmother's name too.

AutoP1lot · 27/12/2024 12:22

I know one in her 60s and one who's about 13.
Lovely name.

Herewegoagain8 · 27/12/2024 17:31

I only know of one. Beautiful name…..would be on my list for my third baby due next year but I have a DD named May and didn’t think I could have two such commonly used middle names as first names together! Also felt sure DGP’s would revert to Rosie which I don’t like.

RubyBirdy · 28/12/2024 19:11

Thank you everyone, really helpful comments to think about!

I'm a Rosie - lots of people call me Rose too and I feel like it's a completely timeless name.

SoySaucy · 28/12/2024 19:32

Rose is beautiful as a first name! I have one primary age dc and one nursery age dc and I’ve never met one.
as you said, I think it’s a commonly used middle spot but I think it’s rarer as a first name.

tsmainsqueeze · 28/12/2024 20:15

Beautiful ,elegant and classic but also uncommon.
