Beatrice or Beatrix?

DH prefers Beatrix and I prefer Beatrice

Thoughts? Or any names similar if one of us can't compromise. Thanks!

Thanks all! I prefer Beatrice as more classic but DH says it has Prince Andrew connotations 🙄. I might be willing to compromise for Beatrix as there are literally no other names we both like!

Beatrice for me, definitely. Not a fan of Trixie as a possible nick name - reminds me of a small fluffy dog name (sorry, maybe I am being too direct there, but it was my honest thought process when I read your post!)

Would have to agree here. Trixie is a good name for a Jack Russell but not a little girl.
I like both Beatrix and Beatrice although would never have used them myself. If pushed I’d go with Beatrice.

Yeah I’m sorry - that’s what I meant by royal family - I had exactly the same thought.

But I think it was quite unusual when she was named (I am around her age and don’t know any other than the princess) hence strong associations for my generation, but it might be more common now so people will make less of a link?

KneesUnder · 18/12/2024 09:00

Much prefer Beatrice and find Beatrix a bit twee.

Frostythesnowman1 · 18/12/2024 09:05

I vote for Beatrice but I'm biased as I have a Beatrice myself. Regarding shortening it, we go with Bea or BeaBea.

ronswansonstache · 18/12/2024 09:09

Beatrix is also the name of The Bride in Kill Bill! Not twee IMO. I love it!

I've always loved it from Shakespeare (our older child also has a name from a Shakespeare play although not something really obvious like Hamlet!). DH isn't as literary!

Beatrix.

lovelysunshine22 · 18/12/2024 09:54

Beatrix sounds sounds a bit try hard and precious imo!

I was thinking the same - have to stick with the Shakespeare spelling IMO, especially if you have another child's name from a Shakespeare play!

BeaBea makes me think of Netanyahu.

Beatrix sounds like a character from Asterix and Obelix, I am sorry. I find it rather comical and bound to be poked fun at.

On the other hand, Beatrice sounds classy and elegant.

So my choice is clear.

Firsttimebabymummy · 18/12/2024 13:32

Beatrix

merediththethird · 20/12/2024 19:36

Heard on a baby name podcast that some people avoid X and Z names because that’s what more and more digital assistants will be called in future

Nikitaspearlearring · 20/12/2024 19:39

I prefer Beatrice. It sounds more classic and elegant.

Pigeon123456 · 20/12/2024 19:40

We chose Beatrice but both are nice 😊

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 20/12/2024 20:16

I had the exact same conundrum a little over 10 years ago. We went with Beatrice but had mild name regret for a year or so. I don’t regret it at all now. I’ve never seen the Prince Andrew connection really.

Gemstonebeach · 20/12/2024 20:17

Beatrix!

weareallcats · 20/12/2024 22:24

Like both, think Beatrix has the edge.

SereneCapybara · 20/12/2024 22:27

Beatrice. Classic and elegant.

Beatrix is harsher.I don't like the 'tricks' ending, it makes me think of tricks or turning tricksy. Some one would nn her Trxie and I'd hate that.

Scutterbug · 20/12/2024 22:29

Beatrix. He
