Both me and my partner had decided on baby’s name before finding out the gender Robin(boy) / Robyn(girl).

we have since found out baby is a little boy🩵
partner still likes the name as do I but I’m on the fence as to is it more a girls name?
I really love it but I don’t want it to be something lo is bullied about when he’s older 🥺

It's too american as a girl's name but quite cool for a boy.

I've never met an American Robyn, and I've lived here for over three decades. It's currently at #1285ish in the US name rankings for girls.

I know four Robyns (girls) in the UK and Ireland though.

Robin (for a boy) is a very nice name imo. I think it fits in well with many other currently fashionable 'softer' names for boys (Luca, Nico, Leo, Louis, Elias, Eli, Oliver, Ethan, Euan, Fergus, Milo, Miles, Arlo, Ezra, Ivo...)

I see it as more of a boys name.
Then again I dislike Robyn for a girl. I don’t like names such as Terri, Toni either, all the women I know with these types of names dislike it.

I do think I still love the name , having thought about its the person that makes the name not the name, weither he decides to be more masculine or feminine I think the name will bend to fit and he probably would go by Rob when he’s a teen which I don’t particularly love but I’m sure he’ll be up to all sorts of by that age his nickname will be the least of my worries 😂

Daniel (would of went by Danny) was also a contender but I feel that this is just not my baby’s name now , partner still likes it and slightly more than Robin.

we have a DD who’s name is Riley and she’s constantly mistaked as a boy when booking appointments 🙄 it was a name I primarily thought of a as a girls name but apparently it’s more boyish ?

Batman and Robin? Robin Hood? Definitely acceptable and non-tease worthy for boys.

Only young one I know is male.

Godesstobe · 16/11/2024 13:05

It's unisex.
I know a husband and wife who are both called Robin (both spelt that way).

Firsttimebabymummy · 16/11/2024 16:23

I prefer Robin to Daniel although Robin Daniel sounds nice if you don't have a middle name sorted.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 16/11/2024 19:59

Robin is fine for a boy - it’s truly unisex, it’s just that most of the male Robin’s you meet now tend to be middle aged or older whereas statistically you still get slightly more young female Robyn’s/Robin’s. Robin has never been popular enough to really date though and imo I think it’s a nice name for either sex.

Daniel is definitely the “safe” option though - it’s a timeless classic that’s never faded in popularity, I just personally slightly prefer the sound of Robin. I think Riley and Robin is a really nice sounding sibset too - but, yes both names could belong to either sex, which is why they fit well together.

Robin for a boy is a traditional name, but if u don’t like it don’t have it.

spilltheteapot · 16/11/2024 20:39

I like Robin and Robyn.
I know a girl Robyn and a girl Robin.
Also knew a boy Robin who was always Robin, never Rob.
It’s a lovely name. Classic.

Robert
Rory

Onlyvisiting · 19/11/2024 22:35

Robin for me is a boys name (bit dated maybe, but sounds like it's back in fashion again) that is sometimes used as a girls name.
Like Charlie.
If you aren't sure why not call him Robert and NN Robin? Then he has options as he gets older if has problems.
And don't do it if you'd hate him being called Rob, because he will be!

Daniel is also very handsome.
Riley and Daniel sound nice together.

Riley and Robin are also great.
