Does anyone know anyone with this?
the name is very sentimental and I never thought I would have another child let alone the same sex.
can I do it?

Have you ever heard of Prince Andrew Albert Christian Edward and Prince Edward Antony Richard Louis? If it's good enough for them...

I think when you're talking multiple middle names from a very small pool of accepted royal names that's slightly different to us mere mortals with a pretty much infinite number of names to choose from.

ManhattanPopcorn · 14/11/2024 19:02

You can but your child won't thank you for it.

I think Christian and Antony were quite original within that family (though maybe not quite as original as Zara or Archie!)

My second child has the first child's middle name as their first! Except one a boy and one a girl so slight variations !! Second goes by a nickname of it and I think they secretly quite like the connection!

theotherfossilsister · 14/11/2024 19:28

We would probably use Kenneth if we had a second boy. It’s our son’s middle name and was my dad’s name.

SchoolDilemma17 · 14/11/2024 19:30

My friend’s first name is her sister’s middle name. Never bothered them.

the Royals did it too (Louis)

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 14/11/2024 19:30

Yes, you can do it

O6bftdff · 14/11/2024 19:33

I think it seems a bit weird. Let your children have their own names.

SemperIdem · 14/11/2024 19:34

I wouldn’t, it’s just a bit unimaginative.

The Royals aren’t exactly a great example of name choices, they’re fairly limited in the names they can/will use. Even Christian, which seems a bit out there for them, will be a nod to a Danish kingly relative.

Dora33 · 14/11/2024 19:35

I know of people and even children who switched to using their middle names.
There are so many, many names to pick from. Don't use your other child's middle name as your next child's first name.

Minihero · 14/11/2024 19:38

I have 3 older sisters and my name is each of their middle names.

To be honest I don't like it - feels like another hand me down and would have liked my name to be just mine.

mathanxiety · 14/11/2024 19:50

George Alexander Louis
...
Louis Arthur Charles

mathanxiety · 14/11/2024 19:52

Actually, Charlotte is a feminine version of Charles, so Louis really only got Arthur to himself.

DeliciousApples · 14/11/2024 19:57

As long as the middle name isn't used daily, for example I wouldn't have an Anne-marie and a Marie. Too confusing. But an Anne with a middle name nobody uses and a Marie is fine.

Carouselfish · 14/11/2024 20:00

I know someone who did this. Your reasons make it valid.

tb4122 · 14/11/2024 20:16

DP's middle name is his younger brother's first name.

Mizzarde · 14/11/2024 20:33

I know two sisters who have this. They are teenagers now and it's caused zero issues.

sel2223 · 14/11/2024 20:50

OP, the stand out thing for me with the replies you've had so far is that there are plenty of parents who've done this themselves or people who know others where this has happened and it's 'never been a problem', 'no big deal', 'zero issues'.....

But I've only seen one reply from someone who's actually the second child in this scenario and in their words:
'To be honest I don't like it - feels like another hand me down and would have liked my name to be just mine'

That would be enough for me to never ever do this. It's not just about you liking a name.

Neetsie · 14/11/2024 20:56

My eldest son's middle name is my younger son's first name.
By complete coincidence it's also my son in law's first name and my daughter in law's maiden name. It's also my grandson's middle name.
Nobody has had an identity crisis so far.

lemonyellows · 14/11/2024 21:57

I am friends with three sisters. The third sister has a double barrel first name compromising of the middle names of both older sisters. It is a well known name though so not obscure.
They all like it.

caringcarer · 14/11/2024 22:03

My younger niece has the second name of her older sister as her name. They were the only 2 names both parents liked.

AlexaSetATimer · 14/11/2024 22:10

KirstenBlest · 14/11/2024 08:23

It has an element of 'second best' or 'runner up' about it.

I agree.

Are you sure there isn't a single other name in the whole world that you could give your child so they know they are just as special as the first, and deserving of their own unique name. Surely?!

SkaneTos · 14/11/2024 22:13

I know a family with two sons.

The names of the sons are
Timothy Jonathan and
Jonathan Timothy

(not giving their real names here, but the name combinations are like that)
