Not really. It’s a surname and means son of David, so unless the dad is called David it doesn’t make any sense.

I don’t mind it but just hear the opening credit lyric “I don’t wanna wait.. for our lives to be over..” Loved Dawson’s Creek at the time

I think of Dawson in Dawson's Creek, but I doubt that is something people under the age of watching the show when it came out would think of.

For me it’s too surname-y, too American, and too much like Dawson’s Creek.

Why not give the child a first name, rather than a surname? I think it’s really so much better.

In that case I agree with @BoleynMemories13 that Dylan has a similar sound and vibe, without being so obviously a surname (Bob Dylan aside🤣 - but he named himself after Dylan Thomas). Maybe Tristan as well?

But if it’s your absolute fave, Dawson isn’t awful -it’s easy to say and spell and likely a number of the boys in his class will have similar surname type names so he’ll fit right in.

I love the surname style name as first names. There are a few little Greyson's running around here, so why not Dawson.

Tbf none of your child's peers will have heard of Les or creek

My other DCs all have American style or really unusual names too so I guess it's maybe just something I didn't know I liked.. But now it's been pointed out 😂 I guess that's my style.

I'm not keen on "normal" or "common" names like David, John etc etc. Don't know why but they've just never been my vibe.

But your child's gen won't have a clue! It's actually quite cute and the name will absolutely grow on him.

Just make sure you like the nickname Daws as it'll undoubtedly be shortened to that.

The NN Daws is off putting if I'm honest. My DCs all have short names that don't have any linked NNs. I'm not a fan of shortened names so that could be a problem.

Oh my goodness, the whole "I hate surnames as first names" brigade always show up for names like this. Unless a name would cause serious offence or bullying of the child, why can't people accept that tastes different and that's a GOOD thing. Also nobody ever says this about James, Lee and Arthur which are surnames too.

Would be so boring to have everyone named the same, not to mention confusing. Dawson is a perfectly good name OP.

I like Dawson actually. NN could be Son/Sonnie if you don’t like Daw.

And Daw (door) isn't a NN. It's a shortening. Nicknames are Fudge, Pumpkin, Shorty, Flip etc. Sorry, it's a bugbear of mine!
