Asher for Boy and Mya, Sienna or Olivia for girl?

Hi,

I don't know the gender for my baby and don't plan on finding out so wanted opinions on these names.

Mainly. I don't want any sound tacky or chavvy! Do any of these names sound so?

Boy; Asher (bible name so sounds modern but is actually quite traditional)

Girls;

Mya

Sienna

Olivia

Thanks in advance

I also really like drew and Dhillon for girls but worried it's pushing the boundaries a bit!

Asher - OK. Not keen on Ash. Makes me think of Gnasher

Mya - tacky and will date badly
Sienna - can't see the appeal, seems a bit of its time.
Olivia - so popular that it seems OK for anyone. Definitely the best of the 3.

Mya is usually spelt Maya, and it will get mixed up with Maya, Maia, Mia, Myah etc.
I like Drew but the ones I know are male. Dhillon is a punjabi surname, I think. Might get mixed up with Dylan (which is not 'dillun' in Welsh).

I'd go with Asher for a boy and Drew for a girl.

I love Asher. It's actually what I wanted to call my son but got vetoed by my husband☹️

unlikelywitch · 26/10/2024 11:15

Love Asher.

Really not keen on Mya or that spelling.

Sienna is lovely as is Olivia but the latter is so incredibly overused.

Not sure about Drew but Dylan (not Dhillon) for a girl is really cool actually.

Other suggestions - Noa, Tessa, Mirren, Rosa, Elise, Bria

I'm biased in favour of Asher as there was a long line of Asher ancestors in my family. I think it means something like he who God laughs with or smiles upon. Mya too much like Myra ((Hindley). Nya or Nyree (Ngaire) are nice names. Olivia is nice.

Nicebloomers · 26/10/2024 11:29

Asher is lovely.

Girls names I’m not so sold on. Mya would be better spelled Maya. Sienna and Olivia are a bit meh. None by of them live up to Asher.

@Nicebloomers I also do have Maya on the list actually forgot to put it in

I would spell 'my-a' as Maya, so much prettier

Raggeo · 26/10/2024 12:06

What about "Asha" for a girl?

notaurewhatusername · 26/10/2024 12:13

@Raggeo not sure but I don't like it as much for a girl.

I love Asher.
It sounds a little "American" but this is negated by the fact it's actually an old biblical name. Also love Joshua for same reason.
Olivia is super popular so depends what you think about that.
Mya- prefer Mia as is more classic - Leah is also nice.

Atishooo · 26/10/2024 13:12

Mya/Sienna/Olivia are so generically popular, they feature in all my kid’s classes. Olivia especially, I think there are 3 of them in one of my DC’s year and all they get referred to as Olivia P or Olivia S etc. They’re just a bit overused.

I like Asher.

Love Asher, Olivia and Sienna.

Maybe Serena?

Moreteaandchocolate · 26/10/2024 15:36

Asher - love it!

All your girls names are nice.

Mya - lovely (prefer Maya spelling)
Sienna - nice, quite trendy though
Olivia - nice but too overused for my taste

Blueberrymuffin8 · 26/10/2024 15:40

My 7 year old son is called Asher. A lot of people love his name.

LlynTegid · 26/10/2024 15:42

Olivia of the three girls names you are thinking of.

Thulpelly · 26/10/2024 16:13
