Can't decide name and it's driving me mad

Hi all :) I've named changed because this is so outing.

So I'm due my second boy next year, we already have Oscar. Our surname is Cunningham. DH loves Stanley but I'm just not sure. DS has told my mum and DH's mum that the baby is called Stanley (our mistake for talking about names in front of him!🤦‍♀️) and the reactions weren't great. I think that's putting me off the name too which I know it shouldn't but I can't help it. What do you all think of Stanley?

Any suggestions for names? We also need a middle name😫

Names that we liked but don't anymore are:

Jack
Alfie
Harry
Ernie
Louis
Charlie
Jasper
Felix

There's an endless list of names that DH doesn't like but I'd be here all night🤦‍♀️

I just don't think we're ever going to have a name that I love which is such a shame because I love Oscar's name so much🙁

Another one who immediately thinks of Flat Stanley.

Could Ainsley, Blakely or Finley be an alternative?

Other suggestions:
Elliot
Jonathan
Elijah
Killian
Joshua

I like Stanley. Names don't have to match sibling's name, and parents and siblings shouldn't get a say.

I don't know how old Oscar is but it was probably too soon to tell him much about the baby.

Mebebecat · 25/10/2024 10:21

Stanley is great.

Manchesterbythesea · 25/10/2024 10:26

Sorry but I think Stanley is a dreadful name for a little boy. I like some of your other options though.

Or..

Rhythmisadancer · 25/10/2024 10:38

nothing against Stanley, but Oscar is close to Ollie, so I'd picture them as Stan and Laurie!

Rhythmisadancer · 25/10/2024 10:41

Duh - meant to type Stan and Ollie!

Footle · 25/10/2024 10:50

Nothing ending c or k, doesn't work with your surname

FayCarew · 25/10/2024 10:59

There are thousands of names out there @whatisthebabyname , you'll find one.

Do you and your DH like Stan?

The Oscars I know have siblings called Oliver or Otto. I'm not keen on using the same initials, but the names are OK.

The ones with sisters don't have names starting with O, and I'd forgotten about Oscar and Hugo and Oscar and Theo.

FayCarew · 25/10/2024 11:14

Sorry about my poorly written post. The Oscars with sisters are Oscar obviously. It's the sisters that have names not starting with O.

We have a Stanley & everyone that asks his name comments how lovely it is, I hated it when DH suggested it, but it grew on me, his middle name is Jack after my grandad.

Entertainmentcentral · 24/10/2024 20:17

I don't see the attraction of Stanley.

What about Sebastian? Seb is kind of cool, like Olly, and it goes with your surname.

Agree and Seb and Olly is lovely!

HappydaysArehere · 25/10/2024 19:21

Dads’ can suggest but the one who actually goes through the birth should decide.

RuthW · 25/10/2024 21:20

Stanley is lovely. Go for it.

Toohardtofindaproperusername · 25/10/2024 21:24

Does ypur dh want a name that you like or is he being jnsistemt because he's a prat. You both have to like the name. Tell everyone it's not Stanley and it willl be fine. They'll get over it. As will your husband. And there isn't a rush you've got ages yet .. it will come.....

AutumnLeaves24 · 25/10/2024 21:32

Flat Stanley!

Plus it's an
old man's name.

just tell him 'no' & to come up with 10 others. He can't just veto ALL of yours and expect you to agree to his 1.

Hi Mumma! : ) Personally I love, Jack, Harry or Lucas! I may be a little biased because my DH's name is Lucas but still its a very cute name! Good luck with the pregnancy darling! 💗

P.S. never tell the Grandmothers anything!! 😂
