It wasn't a name for something already?
Such as Chlamydia.
I like

  • indicative -indie for short
  • nicorette- nicky or etty
  • coffee - has the soft f sound and popular ie sound
  • lawn - unisex but like a cross between Dawn and Lauren

Cassette. I actually thought the girl from Les Mis was called this the first time I saw that cartoon of it a million years ago. 🤣 NN Cassie or Etta. I suppose these days no one knows what a cassette is so you could potentially get away with it now.

MiraculousLadybug · 24/10/2024 13:15

Also Viper. It sounds a bit like Vesper. Capable and exciting. I could imagine a board meeting chaired by Viper who has all the stats on KPIs.

Nicebloomers · 24/10/2024 13:15

Florette

MrsMoastyToasty · 24/10/2024 13:15

Chaise longue. Sister to Couch (male), Foot-Stool (male) and Sofa (female ).

MontySaucy · 24/10/2024 13:16

Cassette is actually really pretty! Florette is as well, I'm beginning to think any word that ends in ette is a nice name!

I always liked Rubella

Arlanymor · 24/10/2024 13:18

Truculent - if it was pronounced the way I thought it was the first time I read Tess of the D'Urbervilles (troo-ceh-lent). Sadly it's pronounced truck-u-lent - which sounds like a bailiff coming after you for failing to return a rental vehicle.

viques · 24/10/2024 13:18

Fabric words.

Denim
Velvet
Corduroy
Fleece
Viscose
Silk
Satin
Lace
Taffeta

though I agree with upthread posters, medical and disease words are the best, especially the ones which have a nod to real names so you need to double take

Coronary
Catheter
Rubella
Fistula
Suture

😆

TBF chaise and sofa sound like siblings from somewhere in America to me!

Taffeta is adorable, Taffy.

Diarrhea 🤣 I heard someone say that once. If you completely divorce the meaning of the word from the word, it IS pretty sounding!

Paprika

Serendipity

cattreetower · 24/10/2024 13:29

I read an article years ago predicting that "EBay" would, at some point, become a popular name for girls. When I disassociate it with the selling site, I think it's actually a really cute name! Even suggested it (half joking, half not) when pregnant with my first 🤣

And if you can’t spell Diarrhea you could use Runs, which I think has a Nordic vibe. Use a soft s.

Runs with a soft s could also be short for Runciple, such as the Runciple spoon in the Owl and the Pussycat?

Quail would be a quirky name for a girl as an alternative to all the Quinns out there atm.

There's an area of Edinburgh called "Corstorphine" which the first time I visited my grandma, I thought was pronounced "Cor-stoff-in-ee" (a bit like Hermione). That would make a great name for someone.

(Sorry Fleetwood Mac)

Given Quinn already exists I think Quim could work. My son has a friend called Quinn at nursery and I did a double take the first time he told me.

UncorrectedPersonalityTraits · 24/10/2024 13:52

Cholera - my Dad was apparently quite keen on calling me this.

That reminds me of when my friend was telling me her daughter (who repeats everything) had 'd i r o... the s h i t s' and daughter who was 5 at the time promptly told every she saw for the next few weeks that she had THE SHITS at the top of her voice 😆 that's when friend realised daughter could spell pretty well.

Also Smelly/Smella are pretty and Isis and Stella which I know are actual names but are probably better known as other things! Ooh and Corona is a nice name

I feel a bit sorry for poor little Marmite, I think people might make prejudicial judgements. Perhaps they could be called Vegemite instead.

Celery is quite nice, it's similar to Eleri (but not the same vowel stresses).

Avocado? I already know someone called Lettice (can you tell I am making my lunch?)

Not Scallion though... they would clearly be a naughty child.
