ok i'm 20 weeks pregnant and have just found out i am having a boy

whilst we had loads of girls names we are finding it harder to come up with a name for our little boy

so far on my list i have

jack
george
preston
austin
charlie
sid

on dh's list are

mason
brodie
christian
sid

i like brodie but just think that it's maybe too american and also both our other kids names end in a eee sound and that it;s just too much. Dh also likes sid like me but not sure if lo would get teased with a name like that

opinions and suggestions would be great please

we can't really have any names beginning with h as our surname is similar to hill and it would sound a bit silly

I think Sid is lovely. There was a little boy at my daughter's pre-school called Sid at it worked really well, and I somehow don't think he would get teased about it (not sure why, I just don't!). I had 2 girls, but would have gone for Noah, Isaac or Jacob for a boy. Happy choosing!

How about

Blair
Reid
Jonah
Jude
Isaac
Rory
Spencer
Ellis
Elliot

I like George and Austin. Good luck!!!!!!!!
We just had a wee boy and called him Reid James, and I dont know another one yet!

I know a boy called Sid who is very cool and funky. Gread parents. Don't tink he's ever been teased about it, then cool kids don't get teased about their names.

I love Brodie and Austin.

cadelaide · 24/04/2008 21:22

liking sid

suwoo · 24/04/2008 21:35

I'm loving Sid too. I know someone due in the summer who is having a Sidney.

scotagm · 24/04/2008 21:40

I teach a boy called Sid and he is lovely. It's a great name.

BigBadMouse · 24/04/2008 22:02

Boy's names are definitely harder than girls. Thought we were sorted for our DS1's name (due in 3 weeks) the silly DH told his dad who said 'you can't call him that' now DH is point blank refusing to use our chosen name (sorry, using your thread as therapy ). Anyway......

jack - despite being popular I still think it is a nice name

george - bit dull I thought but I know lots of cute toddler 'Georges' so why not?

preston - AWFUL, completely AWFUL

austin - was on my list so yes!

charlie - very strong contender for our DS so def yes (although ours would be Charles officially in case he feels like being posh )

sid - don't know. There is a Sid who works at DDs nursery, he must be about 19. His name really suits him and he is very popular with the girls who think his name is cute although being a male who is good with children must help him get the girls too!

mason - on my list too. I really like it but I think people will mistake it for Jason a lot (although it is becoming more popular)

brodie - love it. On my list too but no way DH would agree.

christian - ZZzzzzzzzz.

eddiejo · 24/04/2008 22:15

Jude
Ed
Dylan

Liking Charlie and Sid!

Once knew a boy called Drew Peacock! Be careful the surname is ok.

eddiejo · 24/04/2008 22:17

and what about Isaac Hunt! LOL......

mustsleep · 25/04/2008 09:38

thanks everyone we are currently on sid or brodie but a lot of my family don;t like sid but then it's not up to them

like spencer and freddie but dh not keen some people are so awkward, i might but let him have his say and then go and register on my own!!! (i won't really

When dd was looking for boy's names, i stupidly suggested Hayden, I love it, I think she liked it too, but -I had suggested it so it was not an option

collision · 25/04/2008 09:51

at ds's school there are a few unusual names.....

Ryder
Riley
Clayton
Langden (!)
Malachi

allgonebellyup · 25/04/2008 09:57

Felix

or Isaac ??

tortoiseSHELL · 25/04/2008 10:00

jack - nice but very very popular so prepare yourself for lots of Jacks
george - again, nice, not as popular as Jack
preston - no no no
austin - again, please no
charlie - very nice, very popular
sid - not keen

mason - this is a surname
brodie - too American
christian - like this one
sid - see above

Other names to consider

Ned
Frederick
Harold
James
John
Stanley

(trying to think of the 'good old fashioned names')

Springflower · 25/04/2008 11:10

I like Brodie - thought it was Scottish.

BigBadMouse · 25/04/2008 16:17

mustsleep - was up a lot last night and was thinking of names for our DC - came up with two I thought you and your DC might like...

Brandon
Tristan

Whoever said Mason was surname...it has been used a first name for a long time now - was No 55 on the 'top 100 boys names' last year.
